Blyth Festival Theatre's Resort to Murder, by @BirgitteSolem , is hilariously horrific and terrifyingly tremendous - https://t.co/ybEJ2zQfdl…ingly-tremendous/ #canadiantheatre
@glennsumi When I was in high school in Ottawa, I worked for a law firm one summer. I would literally walk documents to other offices for people. Anything under 6 blocks. That was a job.
On April 26, we mark the two-year anniversary of the shameful lockout of ACTRA performers by the Institute of Canadian Agencies (ICA). This unprovoked, unfair and unjust attack on some of the most precarious workers in our economy has cost our members their jobs, their dreams, their hopes, and in some cases, their homes.
Walking out on 60 years of productive collective bargaining to bully unprotected non-union performers into working without safety standards, benefits and industry standard terms and condition is exploitation. The ICA's actions are a stark reminder of the power imbalances that persist in the entertainment industry and serve as a call to action for greater solidarity and support for performers' rights.
It's time for the industry to prioritize fairness and equity over profit margins and ensure that all artists are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
The quickest way to lose yourself is to do whatever everyone else is doing and want what everyone else is wanting. The more you consume, the more you lose sight of what it is that you actually value. But the more you create, the more you concentrate on what you truly care about.
“It’s heartbreaking to be locked out” say @ACTRAToronto performers who are out on the streets promoting a boycott of 6 #unionbustingbrands on day 368 of the lockout by the @ICACanada Learn more: https://t.co/ZFHDp2WY0h #canlab
Most won’t notice but starting to hear new voices (now non union) on all kinds of commercial voice over campaigns. The VO sector in particular could be devastated by replacement workers as union talent abandoned. The non union space’s growth has already lead to two tiers. #sad
Now @ACA_tweets and @ACTRAnational@ACTRAnational need ICA back to secure reasonable conditions/ fees, workable realistic budgets, simplified contracts and more union work not less. Professionalized, commercial work key to an overall sustainable sector. This is precarious work!
People have a choice this election between the NDP’s bold climate plan for a livable future and Ford’s assault on the environment.
Let’s come together to reach net-zero, create jobs, plant a billion trees, establish a Youth Climate Corps and tackle the climate crisis. #onpoli
Good morning & happy Tuesday to everyone advocating for the Ontario government to distribute free COVID rapid tests to all. Making people spend $40 at Shoppers Drug Mart when other provinces are giving them out for free, just isn’t fair.
Make. Rapid. Tests. Accessible. Now.
I was honoured to join Season 2 of @malorytowerstv as the iconic Miss Grayling, an opportunity that landed at my feet in the midst of this pandemic and I am so grateful. Such a wonderful experience and group of artists to work with!
