Welcome to the Chekor Festival, a month-long celebration of culture and knowledge in the picturesque village of Shergaon.  The festival begins with the serene recitation of sacred Buddhist texts by monks, creating a spiritual ambiance that sets the tone for the days ahead. Throughout the month, the entire community—from children to elders—comes together to engage in activities that pass down our rich heritage.  One of the most mesmerizing sights is the Chekor procession. Young girls, adorned in traditional attire, carry sacred scriptures as they lead the way. Following them are the Makpepus, our warriors, performing powerful war dances that depict the historic journey of these scriptures from Tibet to India. The vibrant colors, rhythmic chants, and the dedication of each participant bring this procession to life, making it an unforgettable experience.  Being part of this profound and beautiful festival was an experience like no other. Grateful and blessed to witness and share in the Chekor Festival.
