@ashishvyas__ Shameful. The general category is paying for being born ‘general’. Is this not suppressing their fundamental right to equality? and abhorrent discrimination??? The government is also doing a serious disservice to the entire backward community by keeping a low standard for them 😡
Abolishing the reservation system in India, especially in life-critical professions such as medicine, is an idea that deserves serious debate. Reservation was introduced at the time of framing the Constitution, initially for a period of 10 years. It has now continued for over 75 years and, in many ways, has turned into a competitive vote-bank issue. In the interest of fairness and merit, the Supreme Court of India should consider reviewing the system and take cues from the Supreme Court of the United States while re-examining its future.
Beautifully put and so very relevant for equality enshrined in our constitution. Reservation is actually discrimination against the general caste…why should we suffer for uncommitted or uncommitted actions of our ancestors ? What wrong have we or our kids committed?
Making the General Category students suffer for the sins they did not commit is not correcting injustice but rather perpetuating it. Injustice in the campus today will be a threat to justice in the country tomorrow.
My views on the unjust UGC Equity Regulations:
The UGC regulations issue is deeply worrying.
General category students already compete in the open category meant for everyone, while reservation was capped at 50% by the Supreme Court in Indra Sawhney. Yet many states have crossed it, some even touching 80–85%.
And this is not just about seats. General category students:
- pay higher form fees
- pay higher admission fees
- pay higher college fees
- have lesser attempts
- get education loans at higher interest rates
- pay higher hostel fees
- get no free tuition facility from govt
- face limited access to library facilities in some places
Now the new #UGCRegulations make it worse. Any SC/ST student can file a complaint that leads to a committee inquiry, while the accused student has no protection if the allegation is false. This turns young students into easy targets.
At a time when student suicides are rising due to academic and financial pressure, adding fear and uncertainty is dangerous. This will only deepen social fault-lines inside our own society.
PM @narendramodi ji must personally intervene to ensure #UGCRollBack before it causes irreversible damage.
