هفدهم دی‌ماه یادآور اقدام شجاعانه و تاریخ‌ساز رضاشاه بزرگ در آزادسازی زنان ایران از پستوی تحجر و انزوا است. این روز، به معنای دقیق، نه روز «کشف حجاب» بلکه روز «آزادی پوشش» است. زنان ایران در این روز، به پشتوانهٔ دولت ملی که نگاهبان آزادی و امنیت‌شان بود، فرصت یافتند از بند ارتجاع رها شوند و همسانِ مردان در اجتماع حضور داشته باشند. بدین ترتیب، میهن کهن ما توانست از توان و استعداد نیمی از جامعه برای پیشرفت و آبادانی کشور بهره‌مند شود.

من آن تصمیم رضاشاه را دوران‌ساز می‌دانم چرا که نه تنها در زمان خود پیشرو بود، بلکه آغازگر تحولی تاریخی در دستیابی زنان ایران به حقوق خود شد که تا همین امروز نیز آثار آن در جامعه ایران پدیدار است، و حتی جمهوری اسلامی نیز با وجود سرشت عمیقا واپس‌گرای خود هرگز نتوانست وضعیت را به پیش از آن باز گرداند. چنانکه امروز نیز زنان ایران از پیشگامان انقلاب ملی برای برانداختن جمهوری اسلامی هستند و همچون سدی استوار، مقابل زن‌ستیزی و آزادی‌ستیزی این ارتجاع مذهبی ایستاده‌اند.

یاد همه مردان و زنان میهن‌پرستی را که در آن روزها از پیشگامان آزادسازی زنان ایران بودند، گرامی می‌دارم، و به زنان و مردان شجاع ایران که امروز دوشادوش هم برای بازپس‌گیری میهن‌ و آزادی‌شان مبارزه می‌کنند، درود می‌فرستم.

Today’s date in history is a reminder of the courageous and historic action taken by my grandfather, Reza Shah, in freeing Iranian women from the confines of backwardness and isolation of mandatory hijab. On this day, Iranian women, supported by a representative government that was the guardian of their freedom and security, were given the opportunity to break free from the shackles of reactionary forces and participate equally with men in society. As a result, our nation was able to benefit from the potential and abilities of half of its population for the progress and prosperity of the country.

Reza Shah’s decision was a watershed moment, as it was not only progressive for its time but it was also the beginning of a historical transformation in Iranian women’s access to their rights, the effects of which are still visible in Iranian society today. Even the Islamic Republic, despite its deeply regressive nature, has never been able to revert the situation to what it was before. As we see today, Iranian women are at the forefront of the national revolution to overthrow the Islamic Republic and, like a steadfast dam, they stand against the misogyny and tyranny of this religious reactionary regime.

I honor the memory of all the patriotic men and women who were pioneers in the liberation of Iranian women during those days, and salute the brave men and women of Iran who, today, are fighting side by side to reclaim their homeland and their freedom.

Long live Iran.
