Many custodians say “cold storage,” but look closer and the keys are secured through an HSM sitting on a cloud server.
One hacked laptop, one phished admin login, and someone’s inside your AWS or GCP console. It’s over, no matter how offline that HSM claims to be or how secure the enclave sounds.
@chenfang, CEO of BitGo Korea, explains why BitGo does things differently, with real offline vaults built around the world, safes within safes, using the same blueprints wherever they’re deployed, including the ones brought to Korea.
Exchange or self-custody? There’s a third option.
Most of the conversation weighs keeping crypto on an exchange against holding it yourself. Regulated custody is the option missing from that conversation.
Institutions have relied on it for years. ETFs and registered advisers are generally required to hold client assets with a regulated custodian, because the rules call for segregation and regulatory oversight.
Now individual investors can use it too. BitGo Bank & Trust, a federally chartered national trust bank, offers regulated custody.

Cheers to @injective and the whole team on bringing the $INJ Staked ETF to market.
Securities lending has a settlement problem. Daily fails that rack up real costs across the industry.
Kris Gower of Circle explains how ARC and USDC could remove that operational burden entirely, from clearing loops to equity total return swaps resetting by the hour. The idea scales further as more real world assets move onchain.
Happy Friday ☀️ Your digital asset report is in!
Bitcoin took investors on a ride this week, dropping toward $75,600 as Democrats swept the midterms, then rebounding above $80,000 before a broader market selloff pulled it back down again.
Trump weighed in on how the Iran conflict hit gas prices. CZ compared the recent exchange hack to risks facing the banking system. American Bitcoin posted a $126 million profit, and Western Union gave an update on its stablecoin strategy.
Let's get into it. 👇
New from BitGo Research: Democrats took both chambers of Congress, and the margins beat what prediction markets had priced. Crypto still sold off this week.
Bitcoin fell 5.9% over five days to $76,018, and ether dropped 3.6%. Bitcoin ETFs took in only $75 million on Wednesday, the day after the vote, even as price rallied.
Several committee leaders who wrote crypto rules lost their seats. With a veto in place through January 2029, regulators will likely drive policy for the next two years.

Even the best-built key could have a flaw, that’s exactly why BitGo doesn’t rely on just one.
In a BitGo wallet, every key uses an entirely separate implementation for how it’s generated.
@mikebelshe explains the thinking behind it.
When an exchange is compromised, where are your assets?
Accessing exchange liquidity shouldn't mean exposing your assets to unnecessary risk.
With BitGo’s Go Network, institutions can trade on participating exchanges while keeping assets in regulated custody through off-exchange settlement.

USDC was always foundational, but Circle wanted to give it real utility and use cases. That’s what ARC is built for.
Kris Gower of Circle joins BitGo CRO Chen Fang to break down ARC, which Circle calls the economic operating system for the internet. Payments, FX, corporate treasury, exchange settlement, Gower says if there’s a use case ARC doesn’t already serve, they’ll build one.
Wondering where your own bitcoin stands?
BitGo’s Bitcoin Quantum Resistance Score runs on public onchain data, so you never connect a wallet or share a private key.
Drop in your wallet addresses, or look up well-known addresses you’ve always been curious about, and see how much bitcoin sits behind exposed public keys.

Could quantum computers eventually threaten Bitcoin?
No publicly known quantum computer can derive Bitcoin private keys from public keys today. The long-term concern centers on transaction signatures, since Shor’s algorithm could eventually target public keys already revealed onchain. Quantum attacks on mining face far steeper hurdles.
Exposure differs from address to address. BIP-361 estimates that more than 34% of bitcoin had revealed a public key onchain as of March 1, 2026.
Holders can act now. Fresh addresses and quantum-aware UTXO selection reduce long-exposure risk using existing capabilities.

As digital assets become increasingly integrated into everyday payments, secure custody remains foundational.
We're pleased to provide the regulated custody infrastructure supporting @ustarpay's payment ecosystem.
UstarPay is Expanding Custody Infrastructure with @BitGo Bank & Trust as Banking Partner.
As crypto cards move into everyday life, the market is asking for more than speed. It wants a defined path from top-up to tap: how assets are held, how funds move, and how each step can be verified.
UstarPay is expanding its custody infrastructure with BitGo Bank & Trust as banking partner so that framework sits under our card and wallet experience. Clear rights. Defined movement of funds. Compliance by design.
Core principle: customer assets stay customer assets. Customers retain ownership and beneficial interest in their assets. Customer assets are not intended to become the custodian’s proprietary assets.
For users, that means a more reliable path from supported digital assets to real-world spending.
For partners, that means clearer custody arrangements under the payment stack.
Real Crypto, Real Life.

Cold storage is standard for digital asset custody, but the more important question is what has to happen before anyone can use those keys to move your assets.
In BitGo custody, every withdrawal requires two separate keys signed by two different operators. No one person at BitGo controls more than one key.
BitGo has spent over a decade protecting digital assets at scale. Now individual investors can get the same cold storage and insurance, with no custody fees for qualifying individual investors.
