Make your #Bitcoin bullet proof by storing your seed words on one metal backup plate, and your passphrase on another.
Always store seed words and passphrases in separate locations.
When considering the different types of #Bitcoin backup devices, it is best to choose a single solid piece of metal, ideally corrosion resistant, like 316L (marine-grade) stainless steel.
"Simpler is better - more pieces means more potential points of failure." - Jameson Lopp
The most important job of #Bitcoin seed storage plates, is to PRESERVE your private key.
Using a mechanical locking device to hide a private key is dangerous because it gives a false sense of security.
Solution = 2FA
Stored in two separate places.
SEED + PASSPHRASE
or MULTISIG
@PopMelancholic My knee-jerk reaction was to close all sales to the US market, but then realised that I just need take the hit until I can sort something more permanent.
Is your #Bitcoin backup fireproof π₯, waterproof π, chemical resistant π§ͺ, brick proof π§±, sledge hammer proof βοΈ, and shotgun proof π₯?
If not, why not back it up on some solid pieces of marine-grade stainless steel (stored in separate locations). π
I don't recommend leaving your seed words on your signing device because it then relies upon a strong enough passphrase.
The key fob in this photo is like a one word passphrase. π¬
Once you protect your #Bitcoin with two-factor security (seed words + passphrase), you'll want to split everything of value into two required parts. π
Great question... It doesn't have to be BIP39 words as you said, but...
1. It's easier to actually measure the level of complexity/security with a known amount of possible combinations.
2. If they are ever discovered, then they don't look like a passphrase, and could be mistaken for part of a seed phrase or something else.

It's so important to understand how secure your #Bitcoin wallet's (2nd factor security) passphrase is.
When created by stringing together...
3x random BIP39 words = 33-bit secure
(est.d to take 8 seconds to hack with a supercluster of ASIC computers)
4x random BIP39 words = 44-bit secure
(est.d to take 4 hours to hack with a supercluster of ASIC computers)
5x random BIP39 words = 55-bit secure
(est.d to take 1.5 years to hack with a supercluster of ASIC computers)
6x random BIP39 words = 66-bit secure
(est.d to take 2,000 years to hack with a supercluster of ASIC computers)

Marine-grade @BitPLATES Domino plates are made from 316L stainless steel, not just 304 stainless steel, so #Bitcoin seed words and passphrases stay protected even against some of the Earth's most corrosive environments. π
@Printer_Gobrrr I know how you feel... I've just heard about it this morning, after spending hours trying to figure out why I'm being charged Β£85 to send a Β£120 product to the US. Small businesses are being eradicated one way or another. οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½
@Rkeyology They come with soft foam protectors, but I would recommend a more inconspicuous cover. eg. DVD/Blue ray case.
We also provide security strips to check if your storage case is ever opened.
Everyone should self-custody their #Bitcoin
Self-custody should include multi-factor security protection.
Multi-factor security should involve distributed parts.
Distributed parts should be resistant to single point of failure (SPoF).
SPoF can be avoided with multiple copies.
Preserve your #Bitcoin private key (seed words, passphrase, and multisig parts) on metal.
