Robinhood’s original planned name wasn’t CashCat, it was Spacetime

Before Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt created Robinhood as we know it today, they founded a company called Spacetime Industries.

And this is where Robinhood actually started.

Before Robinhood Markets existed, Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt were operating under Spacetime Industries LLC.

The original Robinhood app was released under this company.

They would later rebrand it into Robinhood Markets, Inc.

Something also interesting is that Robinhood wasn’t Originally a Trading App, the first version of Robinhood was actually built around stock predictions.

Users could follow the market and make predictions about where stocks were going.

Actual stock trading came later.

After receiving regulatory approval, Robinhood evolved into the commission-free brokerage everyone knows today.

- Google Ventures

Spacetime was already attracting serious investors.

Google Ventures backed the company early.

Later in 2013, they raised a $3 million seed round led by Index Ventures, with a16z participating.

The money helped fund their transition from stock predictions into actual stock trading.
