A man that punched his Bull Terrier dog so hard in the face that he injured his hand has been banned from keeping animals for five years

Robert Waldron, of Tredegar Avenue, Llanharan, inflicted blunt-force trauma on Narla, causing injuries a vet found were consistent with her being forcefully punched on the left side of the head.

Narla suffered from severe swelling, bruising and pain inflicted by Waldrons violence

Shockingly, evidence presented during the RSPCA investigation included a text message indicating that a dog had been beaten so violently that the person responsible injured their own hand.

Waldron pleaded guilty to two offences under the Animal Welfare Act at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that he caused Narla unnecessary suffering by inflicting non-accidental injuries—and then failed to obtain prompt veterinary treatment for the wounded animal.

RSPCA Inspector Black said Narla approached her with what appeared to be a “black eye”.

The bull terrier’s left eye was swollen and partially closed, with dark bruising around it. The entire left side of her face was swollen, particularly around her cheek and eye.

Inside Narla’s crate, the inspector found no food, water or bedding.

The full extent of the dog’s suffering became even clearer during a veterinary examination. Narla yelped in pain when the vet attempted to open her jaw and examine her injured eye.

Significant redness and bruising were also discovered inside her left ear, alongside a cut on the left side of her face. She required local anaesthetic and medication to ease her pain.

A vet concluded that Narla’s injuries were consistent with being punched forcefully in the head.

Waldron was handed an 18-month community order, including 10 rehabilitation activity days and a 26-session programme. He was also fined £80 and ordered to pay £739 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge.

He is now prohibited from keeping animals for five years.
