My friend, Pattie, convinced me to play Modern and sent me a Jeskai Blink list. I have very little experience with the format. I remember thinking it was completely busted last time I played it.
But I got the 5-0 on the first bullet! Excited to continue exploring the format.🤓
I developed a shorthand that probably already existed on how to calculate which line has better odds at finding an out. Might be too basic for math people and too dense for non-math people, but figured I'd share in case it's useful for anyone else.

5-4 w/ UW Control. I didn’t run a meta deck this time around because I wanted to keep it chill and casting Elspeth is fun af. Vibes were off the charts. Had a ton of fun hanging with @AzoriusI and @StormQrow42 and rest of the crew. Can’t wait for Cincinnati!
I built a system that's optimized for:
- Quickly pulling cards, regardless of printing
- Quickly sorting cards
It's not a good system if you care about printing or organizing by set. But it's great if you want to build a deck quickly. I've gone through multiple iterations, and this is the first system I landed on that I've been able to keep up with.
I have boxes for each of the following:
- Commons/Uncommons boxes; one for each color + alphabetical range (e.g., Blue A-G, Blue H-L, etc)
- Rares Boxes, split by colors
- Staples Box (mostly consists of common SB cards and major format staples, e.g., Thoughtseize)
- Tokens, unsorted
- Bulk box (I usually don't bother keeping more than 4-8 copies of each common/uncommon in the sorted boxes)
In the commons/uncommons boxes, I don't alphabetize. Makes it easier to just toss a card that starts with the letter "A" into the A-G box and call it a day.
@LizardJenny Couldn’t agree more. Coming back to MTG after my 2-3 year break already felt daunting enough. MTG continues to grow in complexity. Especially eternal formats where it’s not feasible to learn every card.
Was just thinking comp MTG feels healthier than it has in years. Tons of creators sharing matchup data, PT vlogs, prep content. The Limited Championship gave ppl a new North Star to aim for. Things aren't perfect, but they're improving.
This decision feels like a step backward.
I swear to god, Wizards can't get out of their own god damned way sometimes.
They are making Magic Online change what decklists get published. Only the Top 8 decklists will get posted for challenges under 64 players.

Check out @StormQrow42 masterfully piloting Izzet Lessons 🧙♂️ through a stacked gauntlet of pros, including PT champ @ChrisTheDaneLa1, @Walaoumpa, and @GuI_Dukat!
Josh finished 42nd & just qualified for Arena Championship 12 with Lessons 🌳📈💪
Thanks @HeavyPlayLLC! Link below ⬇️
Been thinking about @GuI_Dukat's latest article, where he calls out "local maxima."
So I dug up @SamuelHBlack's article where he talks through it, and wow. It's one of the best MTG articles I've ever read.

Why do some players consistently 12-4 while others consistently 10-6? (like myself)
I reflect on the chronic performance gap featuring matches vs Yuchen Liu and top8 competitor Cyprus Tron.
@IamActuallyLvL1@TeamYouTube It's this infuriating "growth-hacking" culture that all the tech companies are on. They'll do anything to force users back into their products, and we end up with terrible UX decisions like this...all in the name of improving their engagement metrics. 🤢
Finished 42nd at Pro Tour Lorwyn Eclipsed! Final record 10-6, enough AMPs to qualify for Vegas and Amsterdam! Thank you @TeamRmpntGrowth for having me on board for this one, was incredible working with some brilliant players. Happy to 2-1 the drafts, had a tough seat day 2!
I scrubbed out of the RC, going 2-4 with Lessons. I hadn’t prepared for the Bant Airbending MU at all. But I did 5-1 the Standard Super Qualifier and locked in my R3 qualification. I added 2X Spider-Sense into my SB and it carried me thru the Super Q.
Didn’t have time post about my experience at my first RC at Portland. The highlight was the testing house. I’m jamming games when suddenly the myth, the legend, @fireshoes walks into the house. I promptly learn that he’s staying with us for the weekend. I was star-struck 😆
