Opinion: Every student should feel welcomed, respected & safe when they come to school. Our efforts here in KLSD to marry diversity & inclusion into the student experience is a part of that process. The class of 2021 demonstrated to all of us what respect and decency looks like.
@tinytempest I’m a high school English teacher (also from cincy) and I just discovered your work. Thank you so much for the beautiful writing. I can’t wait to share it with my students.
@JohnnyOatley Sorry the school’s pop is shrinking. Still, I bet that gives you an opportunity to do some cool stuff. More writing, Socratic Seminars, that sort of thing.
Just in: NPR's @lindaholmes will be moderating our 20th Anniversary SPEAK Celebration with @halseanderson and @AcevedoWrites next Friday, Jan 18th!
Tickets are *very nearly* sold out.

@kimreed@TechNinjaTodd I agree that the teaching-by-worksheet thing is ineffective, and your school’s policy seems very sound, but I still don’t see how a 4th or 5th grade class could read a whole class novel without reading homework. And I do think that homework is worthwhile.
@kimreed@TechNinjaTodd 2/2 given that most ELA classes have to cover at least 3 content areas (reading, writing, and speaking/listening). There just isn’t enough time in the year to read novels aloud in class.
