Dear Honorable @TateMavetera
I am writing as a concerned consumer to highlight the unfair practice of balance inquiry fees charged by EcoCash and various banks, particularly when conducted through mobile applications. These fees place an unnecessary financial burden on Zimbabweans who rely on mobile money and banking apps to manage their finances.
As a user, I find it unjust to be charged for simply checking my account balance within an app, which incurs minimal costs to providers compared to USSD or SMS methods. It feels like i am being punished for trying to be careful with my hard-earned cash.
This practice feels exploitative, especially in an economy where every cent matters, and it discourages financial transparency and inclusion for millions of EcoCash and banking app users.
Given your ministry’s mandate to promote affordable and accessible ICT services, I respectfully urge you to intervene by:
1.Collaborating with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and POTRAZ to review and eliminate balance inquiry fees for in-app transactions.
2.Advocating for consumer-friendly policies that ensure free access to basic account information, aligning with Zimbabwe’s digital economy goals.
3.Engaging service providers like EcoCash to address public concerns and adopt fairer pricing models.
Your leadership in reducing USSD charges in the past demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to affordability. I believe similar action on balance inquiry fees would greatly benefit Zimbabwean consumers and strengthen trust in digital financial services.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
An important and powerful message from one of Zimbabwe’s opposition parties, ZAPU, which correctly says that Zimbabweans can’t wait for 2028 after the shambolic and discredited election!
Zimbabwe has the highest inflation in the world, unemployment is at 95%, hospitals have no medication or treatment equipment like radiotherapy machines.
The local currency has lost 95% of its buying power in the last twelve months, there is a looming hunger crisis and yet the looting of public funds and the plunder of the country’s natural resources by ZANUPF political elites and their surrogates continues!
#2028IsTooFar ZAPU says!
RETWEET if you agree that Zimbabweans can’t wait for 2028!
