My favorite statistic to remind me that our two continents have a huge wealth disparity that Europeans can’t comprehend. Their failure to overcome this disparity is why they can’t relate to Americans and act spiteful online.
That’s all it took to break your entire fanbase? Wow.. maybe I should’ve just said “Boo”. No apologies, no compliments. Grow up folks. He had a bad take and I said the painful truth. Bounce back better. #GoIU#NoCompliments
We mentioned we were “just happy to see a decent play”, trying to make light of the situation. He then stands up facing us, and says “Are you going count that as another hypothetical win for the SEC?” Doubling down in a very pompous way.
The most famous Cicero is Marcus Tullius Ciceri, and rightly so, but he had a little brother that served in Caesar's Legions during the Gallic Wars.
In 54BC, several years before they crossed the Rubicon, Caesar's Legions were wintering in far northern Gaul during a period of relative peace. Suddenly, Gallic armies materialized and laid siege to a number of Caesar's Legions' camps.
One such siege was of the camp led by Cicero's little brother, Quintus Tullius Cicero. Quintus was competent, but he was no Marcus and no Caesar. His siege was particularly well-executed by the Gauls—every messenger he sent to call for aid got captured, then tortured and dismembered in sight of the walls.
It took a half dozen or more attempts before someone finally snuck through. It might be weeks before they heard news of relief, but they knew that Rome would never leave their men abandoned to the enemy.
A messenger indeed found Caesar's headquarters, on the move already responding to the various sieges. While Labienus cleaned up his area of operations, Caesar made a breakneck pace for Quintus Cicero's camp. He sent fast movers ahead to deliver word and prevent any surrender, but getting a message back into the camp was going to be as hard as getting one out.
One of the scouts fashioned a note to a javelin and hurled it into the camp from as far away as he could manage. It might have been days before someone finally noticed a random spear lodged into a wall, but it was obviously carrying a message once found:
"Stay strong. Caesar is coming."
