I have seen a trend on TikTok where parents are saying when they realized they lost their connection with their children. The stories there are heart breaking 😭😭😭😭 . There is one that I found particulary sad , it says a man went to pay school fees and found children leaving for a school trip . He was surprised because his son never mentioned anything about that school trip , he found him in the class room alone reading a book . The son said he knew he would have said no and didn't bother.
Another one always thought his daughter was a quite girl , he took her to his sisters over the holidays and told her as much. When it was time to go pick her up ,he could hear her from the gate laughing and talking . Turns out it years of telling her to shut up had made her quite. Her sisters husband was more laid back and never complained when the children played around him . After a few days of being quiet she learnt it was safe to talk and play around the house.

The hypocrisy on twitter irks me so bad. When you were in university, you knew your dad wouldn’t give you extra money for personal expenses like printing, transport or group contributions. So when you asked for money for textbooks, you’d add ₦10k here and there just so you wouldn’t be stranded. You understood why you did it then.

But when it’s a mother doing something similar to get extra money, and she’s still using that money to take care of the home, the children and even her husband, suddenly it’s stealing and completely unjustifiable.

You people really lack empathy for women. Why can’t you think beyond the surface? A woman who genuinely has enough and still does this for selfish reasons is a different conversation. But when she has no other means and is using the money to keep her family going, there’s clearly more to the situation.

And if you hate “Twitter women” this much, do you also hate your mothers? Go and ask your mother if she ever had to do something similar to make ends meet.
