This reminds me of the time Southwest Airlines oversold our flight and put 2 of my kids on standby. Then they asked for volunteers to give up their spots for $2500 each, so we accepted their offer.
After the flight left without us, they claimed that they never should have made us the $2500 offer because they actually needed 2 *other* people to accept it so our family could get on our flight. They handed me much smaller vouchers to sign and I was like lol no.
So they tried to argue the definition of voluntary vs involuntary with me. I was like cool story give me your badge number to attach to this DOT complaint I’m about to file about your attempt to renege on our contract, violating DOT regulations.
This lead to multiple levels of escalation and to each person I said please give me your badge number to attach to this DOT complaint. While they were radioing the next guy up the chain I said okay I’m going to go sit over there and I’ll wait for you to page me when you have resolved this situation in a satisfactory fashion.
The entire time, I was extremely calm and used my Dangerous Professional voice. (h/t @patio11)
Ended up with multiples of the original promised amount + inconvenience compensation + customer service reached out with more vouchers.

Happy Brexit referendum anniversary day. It weakened the economy. Reduced investment. Tanked the pound. Damaged the City. Increased red tape. Increased immigration. Decreased the rights of the young. Staffed billions wasted. But hey - Johnson has PM on his CV and his partner in crime Farage has replaced him as the darling of the right wing rags. So all worth it for the tiny minority who gained out of an act of national self harm
Same bloke that assaulted Julie Bindel in Edinburgh. Now photographing Helen Joyce. You don't "randomly spot" someone in city the size of London just after she came out of Broadcasting House for a widely publicised, scheduled interview. But yes yes, "toxicity on both sides".
@WestMidRailway Why are you still running dangerously short 2 car rush hour trains on the Stourbridge line even after a woman was hospitalised at Rowley Regis station due to overcrowding yesterday?
@WestMidRailway When are there going to be more carriages?
If I had actually more info I could get different buses to Dudley Port or Sandwell & Dudley until this is resolved.
@sarahbrown0210@WestMidRailway They're still doing this even after a lady ended up in an ambulance at Rowley Regis yesterday morning due to overcrowding.
@WestMidRailway At the very least when the train stops at Smethwick Galton Bridge you could remind them that they can change there for a train to Bhan New St.
There have been no non automated announcements on this train at all (left SGB at 07:54)
@WestMidRailway And run some replacement buses too perhaps, or have an emergency timetable with different stopping patterns to facilitate crowd control.
@WestMidRailway As well as the danger the of course means this train has in effect been cancelled at Langley Green - which only has 2 trains an hour - cos it is impossible to board.
An important clarification - pls share.
There is NO two child cap on Child Benefit
I've had questions, as many media outlets write confusing statements or use 'child benefit' as shorthand. The two-child cap is not about Child Benefit, it is about benefits (eg Universal Credit or tax credit).
Child Benefit is separate and is increased for every child.
A large Labour majority would lead to "constitutional vandalism," says party which:
- Unlawfully shut down parliament
- Breached international law
- Repeatedly misled MPs
- Interfered with the independence of the Electoral Commission
- Ignored the ministerial code
Yesterday a pensioner called my office for a food bank voucher. She was one of many yesterday, it'll be the same today. It's the same everyday. One (just one) of my local food banks gave our 1000th referral a box of chocolates. That was years ago.
The severe suffering of 3 million children at the sharpest end of our poverty emergency is unseen and unreported.
These are austerity’s children – millions of boys and girls living through what is for them the “hungry 20s” in food bank Britain.

I'm not an expert, but when cabinet ministers are talking about the opposition winning a supermajority and claiming unchecked power, it feels like the Conservative's election campaign isn't going brilliantly...
