A few months ago, we embarked on a difficult journey of setting up our design practice. A space that gives us freedom to do what we really enjoy doing unapologetically!! Welcome to Blackcourt Studios!! We are ready for all your architectural, photography and research needs!!
Food for Thought…Recently a client said to us “I don’t understand how people build the same exact type of house you find in Academia, deep in Uukwaluudhi, it’s like listening to Amapiano at a burial, yes it’s trendy but it’s just the wrong space” Context matters….
It’s not everyday one gets to help improve a space with so many childhood memories through design. We have strong relationship with this school, and we hope our intervention contributes to more special memories for others!
OONGULU// INSERTIONS
A complex process of creating a home within a home, inserting a “new” into the “old”. We are navigating frictions that come with building a contemporary home within a traditional village home… looking into layering memory, movement…
CONGRATULATIONS!!

“The shade project” as part of the OLA. We experimented with recycled materials to create temporary shade structures invoking thoughts on small scale climate change mitigation measures! Big thanks eunamibia for the support.

Move In Day//
We finally signed off completion of this lovely home & the client moved in immediately 😅! This was a long and complicated design project for the studio and it feels good to see the architecture merge with the occupation of space!

20mnts into the film, the elderly, young men and women, children were all engaging with the film. We are gathering lessons learned from this project to explore how a public space could be truly be of public common good…
We were involved in a project that explored public space in Gamengte Katutura. The space had only boys playing football and cat calling the young girls as they walked by. With a small insertion (film showing) we transformed the space to be more “inclusive”. (1/2)
Observations from the Northern Capital//
“We have many problems here, but there also many opportunities and chances, just look all those people, they are all doing something” - Kehemu Resident

First impressions of a new #LearnCreateMarketHuB in central Rundu. The next step is to do some technical documentation and agree to disagree with our engineering colleagues 😅😅😅!

MOOD AT THE STATION … Lazarus Hishekwa, organizer & founder of Flamingos, speaks about his event ‘Mood at the Station’; hosted at TransNamib Train Station on Saturday. The event is a first of its kind social activity at the train station. Video: Arlana Shikongo
Constantly trying to imagine how these spaces will look in the next 50-100 years. Will people move to urban centers? Will climate change ruin it all, maybe more people move into the homesteads and live of the land? What about culture, identity and belonging?
