As a #newPI training those who will be the bedrock of our lab, you have to trust that everyone on your team is up to speed regarding fundamental procedures and concepts.
But how do you know this is the case?🤔
I created a short practical assessment to gauge their grasp of essential competencies and biological principles and they loved it ✨
The assessment was done such that only I could see their responses.
Topics covered included: pipetting, grasp of the genotyping, perfusion, and Immunofluorescence protocols, crude neuroanatomy, how to perform dilutions, why certain techniques are used (e.g., ATAC-seq vs. Flow cytometry), principles of mouse colony management. Now after this assessment I have a clearer idea of how to personalize future skill building training sessions with the goal of making my team even stronger than ever! 😃
