....and opting to sunset it, ushering in 6-10 years of tense annual negotiations

and scaring off investment from Canada.

Very few understand, large industrial businesses & manufacturers make investment decisions based on 25 yr horizons.

Especially businesses with high CAPEX.

Not renewing CUSMA, and instead doing annual reviews, ensures a massive flight of capital.

Stability of free trade is no longer there.

It will hurt Canada. In a big way.

We may not see the capital flight show up immediately, but it’s already happening.

These are the investment decisions being discussed today by some of the biggest public and privately held companies operating in Canada.

The Japanese ambassador has already stated that CUSMA is a critical condition for them to increase automotive.

That’s a polite way of saying: if CUSMA isn’t renewed, we’re moving things to America.

Today, Carney admitted defeat.

And it’s must worse than he cares to admit.

>You’re charged 10% per year on amounts they say are outstanding
>Miss a filing deadline by a single day and the late fees start the next morning

A Canadian writes me today: “I filed a simple loss carryback in March. They’re telling me 45 weeks. It’s not complex at all.”

An agency that demands its money in 30 days and takes 10 months to return yours.

If a private business operated like this, it would be sued out of existence.

When the government does it, they call it “higher than normal intake.”

Canada ain’t broke.

It’s just being run by people who treat their own citizens like the inconvenience.

Bill C-34 goes far beyond protecting children from harmful online content and prohibiting AI companies from encouraging users to commit crimes. It implements a social media ban for minors, effectively regulates AI chatbot inputs and outputs, and grants the federal Cabinet broad powers to regulate the internet in the future.
