“Players are at the mercy of what their coaches can offer them to challenge them. So, by nature I kind of look at my job, inherent to that, is I am supposed to make people better and you do that through challenge.”
- Mike McDaniel
Mike Leach was Consumed
When Mike Leach was getting his law degree he reached out to a famous attorney to see if law was really what he wanted to do with his life.
This was the response he got...
"I love law. I hate law. But, most importantly, I am consumed by law. I think about it all the time, and yes, I would do the same thing again because it is fulfilling to do something you are consumed with. If you are consumed by law, go be an attorney. If you are not, find something else."
Mike followed up that response with these thoughts...
"The words he used resonated: being consumed.
Most people will say you should love what you do or enjoy what you do.
Enjoy what you do, though, is an oversimplification.
If you're ever really good at anything, you don't enjoy it all of the time because there's a chase and a challenge to it that goes beyond enjoyment.
There is a certain pain that goes into having truly great success. You will have to overcome a lot of obstacles.
I thought about law some, but I thought about sports, football in particular, a lot.
YES! I should go out and try to become a football coach!"
Been at ESPN a long time - this one was an all timer. Before social media, it was as viral as a story can be. I watched it on a tape in the news room. I couldn’t stop watching his teammates.
Seattle Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald - What Players Want
- "Players want to be coached. They want a connection. They want a coach that trusts/believes in them & to teach them the stuff that works. They want to be challenged but you have to build a relationship first to challenge guys the right way."
Bringing the podcast back, sorta:
2 years ago, I started a podcast with a couple guys talking all things football (@QuickGamePod), and I loved it. It was pretty much an excuse to talk football with your buddies - I mean come on, you can't beat that.
Well, I've been trying to figure out how to keep that train going and maybe take it up a notch. I love talking ball, I love programming and building websites. How do I bring it all together?
All this has brought me here -- I'm launching a new site / brand / thing that I've built.

In short, the site will be a place for people who love SEC football to get insights and analysis. It's very simple at the moment, but I think it has a lot of potential.
Here are a few of the current core features:
-Player Game Stats
-Rankings
-Depth Charts
-Depth Chart Comparisons
-Blogs, Podcasts, News
I’ve launched my first app,

The inspiration behind it was trying to solve a problem we had when I worked in personnel for @AuburnFootball.

Marcus Davis once caught a 27-yard pass on 3rd-and-9 with 1:46 left in the game on Auburn's game-winning TD drive at Texas A&M in 2013. Just over 10 years later, Davis helps flip 5-star Cam Coleman from Texas A&M to Auburn. Davis does it again.
