There are no delays in the climate system. There's no committed warming. An incomprehensibly large and rapid buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and energy in the oceans is of no great interest or consequence.
Warming will stop on a dime if an annual ~60 billion tonnes of emissions are stopped, with ~15 billion tonnes of unstoppable emissions sucked back out of the atmosphere.
The cooling effect of aerosols is largely unimportant. Even the recent 80% cut in sulphur aerosols from global shipping will only add a tenth of a degree of warming by 2050.
The Earth's response to a doubling of CO2 is 3 degrees C (best estimate). Please ignore James Hansen's new paper which explains that today's GHGs warm the planet to 10C above preindustrial as a requirement of physics. Just as his 2008 paper was ignored, which explained that the Earth's temperature sensitivity to GHGs is approximately doubled when slow feedbacks are included.
The idea that global warming is accelerating or will accelerate is hotly debated despite the fact that the rate of planetary energy absorption has tripled in the last 20 years.
Don't even think about the loss of Arctic sea ice. If you do have to think about it, remember we can always cool the planet if we put in the effort. Yes, Ramanathan said that the loss of the sea ice would add warming equivalent to the direct warming effect of all humanity's CO2 emissions. Don't think about that either.
We are still in control. Yes, the situation is worrying, everyone should be deeply concerned, but please try to relax and continue shopping. Don't forget to vote.
Take your parent off the pedestal.
Look at their relationships, the way they speak about themselves, & their beliefs.
They’re human. Unsure of how to do life. Like all of us.
Leaving the childhood illusion that they’re all knowing gods is the first step in healing.
People say they’re being nice.
When they hide the truth because they don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings. Or let them down.
This isn’t being nice: it’s self protection.
That’s not a bad thing, just call it as it is: a fear of someone being upset.
Sinead O’Connor just died. She was heavily criticized in 1992 for tearing up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live, condemning of paedophilia in the Catholic Church. She was right all along.
Part of maturing emotionally, is understanding that you can't change or control how people behave. If they're committed to misunderstanding you, it's likely they're gaining something from that interaction.
I feel like we need to keep making noise about the Shiny Happy People doc until @Discovery answers for why they decided to give adult women’s salaries to their father without their permission.
NEW: The Clay County prosecutor has charged 84-year-old Andrew Lester in the shooting of Ralph Yarl, a 16-year-old Black boy in Kansas City who went to the wrong address to pick up his siblings last week.
The prosecutor announced that Lester has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. A warrant has been issued for the man’s arrest; his bond has been set at $200,000.
Ralph Yarl, age 16, knocked on the wrong door in Missouri and was shot.
He went to the door at the wrong home to pick up his younger twin brother and that’s when he was shot, according to police.
CBS affiliate KCTV reports: “The correct address Yarl was attempting to go to was a block away. According to the victim’s Aunt, Faith Spoonmore, the homeowner opened his door and then opened fire on Yarl. The man, whose identity has not been released yet, allegedly took a second shot at Yarl, hitting him in the head again.”
According to KSHB TV: “Yarl was shot by a homeowner after mistakenly arriving at the wrong address — 1100 block of Northeast 115th Street instead of 1100 block of Northeast 115th Terrace.”
The shooting happened April 13th.
The shooter was held by police for 24 hours, pending investigation, but then released.
“I want everyone to know that I am listening,” Kansas City police chief Stacy Graves said at a news conference at Kansas City police headquarters downtown, “and I understand the concern we are receiving from the community.”
“Yarl is the utmost example of how you want a young man to carry himself in this world,” said one of the teen’s longtime teachers to the Kansas City Star. Meara Mitchell, a teacher of Yarl’s for several years, called his shooting “incomprehensible.” She described him Sunday as a “stellar human-being” with a “quiet fortitude.”
KCTV 5 adds: “Yarl is a section leader in his school’s marching band and is said to be a top-base clarinet player in the state of Missouri.”
Jesus never mentioned homosexuality once…if you’re a follower of Christ or a “Christian” you ain’t get homophobia/transphobia from him. That’s all you.
