Protests being out people, many of whom are unorganized, into the streets to express their anger and frustration which makes them golden opportunities to recruit new people into the revolutionary party.

Furthermore, protests can serve to spread ideas, demonstrate the popularity of an idea (if its particularly large), and put pressure on the ruling classes to respond (as we saw in Minneapolis where the people forced a defacto city wide strike from the bottom by not going to work an protesting instead.

As nice as this sounds, no amount of charity work will overthrow the oppression of the billionaires. It is waste of time and resources.

Intervening in protests allows the revolutionary party to connect with the masses, spread the ideas of marxism, recruit, and even guide the movement of the masses if they are influential enough.

Picking up trash does none of that.

Because, In short, Stalinism is a distortion of Marxism and has played an unequivocally reactionary role in the class struggle.

Only Leon Trotsky (and Ted Grant who succeeded him) held true to the ideas of Marx, Engels, and Lenin and fought for those ideas until he was murdered by Stalin and his cronies.

Marxism is about the international working class taking power and democratically managing the state and economy globally not about a beuractric clique seizing power, ruling over the workers, and doing everything to maintain their own power and privileges.
