AOC on why she’s considered controversial: When you fight really entrenched power, that power will fight you back. They cannot be seen attacking the message because that makes them look bad, so they attack the messenger. There will never be an uncontroversial messenger for challenging the structures of power keeping wages low.
Secondly, I think my presence at someone who was a waitress… I’m not supposed to be there according to them and I’m not bought. There’s a real class aspect to this. There is a lot of people who think if you don’t make a lot of money, it’s reflective of your intelligence and your capacity as a human being.
And of course, I’m a woman and I’m Latina. My mere existence is subversive in the place that is am. I also don’t act in a way that women are supposed to act in a society like this. You’re coming at me crazy, I’m not going to be deferential to you.
The malignant narcissist will abuse you relentlessly.
If you say nothing, the abuse will continue, if you ask gently for it to stop, the abuse will continue. If you try to reason with the narcissist, the abuse will continue. When you finally fight back because all other options have failed, the narcissist will paint you up as the bad guy and play the victim role.
This is the insanity of #NarcissisticAbuse
Covert narcissists feel incredibly threatened by honest people with strong intuitive insight and and unwavering commitment to honesty.
Being around someone who "sees" them — not the mask, but the real, insecure, manipulative self beneath — is intolerable to a covert narcissist. It brings up shame they try desperately to avoid.
Instead of self-reflecting, they project, blame, or smear the honest person to undermine their credibility.
On the topic of suicide…Something that kept me from committing suicide was the fact that I knew my abusers wanted me to and if I did, people would simply believe all the lies my abusive parents and covert narcissist brother said about me, were true.
People would think that I “went crazy“, was “troubled”, whatever. I knew my abusers were setting the stage for my suicide. Telling people manipulative things to make it seem like I was unhinged or “crazy” so no one would be too surprised if or when it happened.
And they would pretend to be sad and heartbroken or they would act like there was nothing they could’ve done and gain all kinds of attention and sympathy and no one would know that they were the ones who abused me so severely that I couldn’t stand to live any longer.
This is what malignant narcissists do.
And I’m sure they had fantasized and practiced what they would say and the fake tears and words they would put on when they found out I tragically died.
I couldn’t let that happen. I couldn’t let them erase me from existence and rewrite me according to their deranged fantasy. I couldn’t let evil win like that.
