Why Can the Question “What Are the Criteria for a Complete and Flourishing Life?” Be Considered the Central Question of Philosophy?

We have unraveled the nature of the Universe. But we have not unraveled ourselves.
Modern science has unveiled before humanity a grand picture of reality: we understand the origin of galaxies, the mechanisms of evolution, the structure of the cell, the workings of the brain, and the patterns of behavior. But the clearer the external world becomes, the more acutely we feel the inner uncertainty of the human being. Knowledge does not automatically become wisdom, nor does information become life’s guideposts.
This is precisely why the central question of philosophy is not only “what is the world?” but above all:
How should one live so that life is complete, worthy, and flourishing?
Science can explain what is. But the question of what ought to be remains the province of philosophy, ethics, and each of us.
A complete and flourishing life is not a set of dogmas, nor an external moral scheme. It is the art of unfolding human potential, of participating in the creative shaping of the world, and of turning one’s own life into a source of meaning, humaneness, and beauty.

1. Human Nature, the Meaning of Life, and Self-Creation
People are capable not only of living, but of reflecting upon their own lives. We are able to observe our thoughts, analyze our motives, change our character, reconsider our goals, and consciously shape the direction of our development.
This is why a complete life begins with a question:
What kind of person do I want to become — and what do I live for?
It begins with the search for the meaning of life.
The meaning of life cannot be reduced to mere survival, pleasure, or the accumulation of goods. A meaningful life unfolds through one’s destined purpose — through what a person does with their life and what consequences they leave behind.
Life becomes meaningful when a person:
• develops themselves;
• creates values;
• brings good to others;
• contributes to the cultivation of humaneness;
• and strives to multiply good, beauty, and meaning.
We are not only the result of evolution. We are its continuation.
A complete life is a path of self-creation, of the gradual formation of that version of oneself that unfolds the full range of human potential — intellectual, moral, creative, and emotional.

2. Rationality, Worldview, and Inner Strength
Worldview plays a special role in a complete life. It is what determines how a person perceives the world, life, themselves, and their place in the Universe.
A rational and holistic worldview frees one from prejudices, strengthens critical thinking, and helps one build a life on firmer foundations. Rationality is not coldness, but a form of respect for reality.
But the path to a mature worldview is rarely easy. New knowledge often gives rise to inner crises and a sense of losing one’s former supports. Yet it is precisely the overcoming of these difficulties that develops psychological strength, resilience, and inner freedom.
A complete life is impossible without critical thinking, inner discipline, and the ability to maintain stability in the face of the world’s complexity.
The deeper a person understands reality, the more clearly they realize the value of life and their responsibility for it.

3. Love of Life, Beauty, and the Emotional Fullness of Life
A person needs not only rules and goals, but also the ability to feel life. It is impossible to imagine a complete life without love, joy, inspiration, beauty, creativity, closeness, and emotional richness.
Happiness is not superficial pleasure, nor an escape from difficulties. It is the sense of deep involvement in a life that holds development, inner growth, and the feeling that your path is not accidental.
Love of life is not naive optimism, nor a denial of the world’s tragic nature. It is the deep awareness that, despite the finitude of existence and the imperfection of reality, life remains an astonishing and precious phenomenon.
Admiration for life is born above all from admiration for the finest expressions of the human being: kindness, courage, sincerity, and the capacity to love, to create, and to overcome limitations.
Beauty ennobles life, strengthens humaneness, and inspires creation.
Life must be not only meaningful. It must also be beautiful.

4. Humaneness, Relationships, and the Common Good
No human being exists in isolation. Our actions, words, and decisions continuously shape the quality of society. Trust, respect, justice, and the capacity for cooperation do not arise automatically — they are created by people.
This is why a worthy life includes responsibility toward others. But a mature life is not only the renunciation of evil. It is active participation in multiplying good, humaneness, culture, and opportunities for others.
Relationships between people hold special significance. Among the most important sources of happiness and inner stability remain love, friendship, mutual support, and deep human connection.
Love is not only a feeling. It is a form of creation.
A person becomes truly mature when they begin to measure their happiness not only by personal well-being, but also by how much light, support, and meaning they bring to others.

5. Life-Creation, the Future, and the Elevation of Humanity
A complete life requires not passive existence, but active participation in life. A person reveals themselves through action, creativity, the overcoming of difficulties, and the striving toward meaningful goals.
Life-creation is the ability not merely to exist, but to strengthen life: to create values, to inspire others, and to transform oneself and the surrounding world.
True satisfaction with life is born not from passive comfort, but from movement, growth, and the sense of one’s own involvement in something significant.
Modern humanity is increasingly becoming a planetary civilization responsible for its own destiny. Our decisions affect not only our contemporaries, but also future generations.
The history of humanity is not only a struggle for survival, but also the gradual liberation of the human being from the destructive impulses of the past: cruelty, fear, enmity, and blind egoism.
This is why humanism is not merely a moral ideal. In the long term, it becomes a condition for the survival and further development of the human race.
The meaning of human life is increasingly tied to participation in the work of elevating humanity:
• reducing violence;
• developing culture and science;
• preserving life;
• humanizing society;
• and creating a more worthy future.
People are not merely a random product of evolution. They can become its conscious continuation.
We came from the depths of the stars — and we ourselves can become a source of light.
Life is not only a trial. It is also an opportunity.
These dimensions form the modern architecture of the answer to the question of a complete and flourishing life.
A complete life is a form of existence in which a person:
• unfolds their potential;
• develops worldview maturity;
• fortifies inner strength;
• preserves self-respect;
• creates values;
• loves life;
• admires its beauty;
• and helps humanity become more humane, rational, and beautiful.
And in defining the criteria for a complete and flourishing life, we define not only our own destiny, but also the image of humanity to which we are ready to entrust the future.

Prophet time kẹ̀? That was less than 1,500 years ago. There were written records of kissing that dated to more than 4,500 years ago. Sumerian cuineiform (ancient clay tablet writings) by the Sumerians in southern Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) showed this.

A male deity had "holy intercourse" with goddess Ninhursag and kissed her while at it. He then poured "seeds" (semen) of seven twins into her womb.

Summary: People have been kissing for a loooooooooooooong time.

Ladies and gentlemen, look at the bird in the first frame. It's known as a greater honeyguide. Honeyguides are birds that guide humans or honey badgers to honeycombs. Once the humans harvest the honey, honeyguides settle for the wax comb and developing larvae left behind.

That doesn't make them a bad bird, right? Well, that's not all they're known for. I've written and made documentaries about cuckoo birds in the past. Cuckoos are known as brood parasites. These are birds who don't incubate their own eggs. They lay eggs into the nest of other unsuspecting birds. Honey guides are also like that, but with a twist.

A female honeyguide never builds a nest or raises her own chicks. Instead, she secretly watches the nests of birds such as bee eaters, barbets, hoopoes, kingfishers, and woodhoopoes. When the host parents briefly leave, she slips into the nest, punctures or removes one of their eggs to reduce future competition, lays her own egg, and disappears forever. The unsuspecting foster parents then incubate the honeyguide's egg as though it were their own.

The honeyguide embryo develops unusually fast, allowing its egg to hatch one to three days before the host's eggs. This early start gives the chick a major advantage in size and strength before the foster parents notice anything unusual.

Unlike most baby birds, the newly hatched honeyguide is born with two sharp, backward pointing hooks on the tip of its upper beak (check second picture). These hooks serve one purpose only: killing. Although the chick is blind, featherless, and only a few hours old, it instinctively searches the nest for movement. When it finds another chick, it repeatedly bites, stabs, and shakes it for several minutes until the victim dies from puncture wounds or internal injuries. If some host eggs hatch later, the honeyguide kills those chicks as well.

Researchers have found nests where every single host chick was killed this way. Unlike a cuckoo chick, which simply pushes eggs or nestlings out of the nest, the honeyguide murders its rivals directly (check image 3).

Within a few days, the deadly hooks begin to shrink, and by the time the young bird leaves the nest, they have disappeared completely. As an adult, there is no visible sign that it once possessed these specialized weapons.

The foster parents never realize they have been deceived. Even after all of their own chicks have mysteriously disappeared, they continue feeding and caring for the honeyguide until it is fully grown. In effect, they spend weeks raising the very bird that killed their entire brood.

This brutal behavior evolved for a simple reason: food. A nest can only support a limited number of chicks. If the honeyguide had to compete with its foster siblings, it might not receive enough food to survive. By eliminating every rival, it receives all the food and parental care, greatly increasing its chances of reaching adulthood and reproducing.

This is how you know people who know very little outside their own field. The tweet reeks of arrogance wearing intelligence's clothes.

I once had a lecturer like that. He believed anyone who studied anything besides biochemistry or medicine had wasted their time. "Why would you go to school to learn accounting? Any fool can count money. Why would you go to school to study theatre arts? You don't need school to be a jester." Those were some of his exact words.

A few years later, I took part in a stage play with theatre arts students at the University of Ìbàdàn. I couldn't help but respect them. Some were juggling three or four productions at once and still showing up to lectures. I was in just one production, and trying to memorise my lines while life threw its usual wahala at me was already a lot. If that one production stretched me, I can't imagine carrying four. Whatever else those students lacked, intelligence was not on the list.

It makes you wonder what else such people get wrong without knowing it. The man who thinks accounting is just counting has clearly never tried to reconcile a company's books after someone else has hidden a theft in them. The man who thinks acting is just standing on a stage and talking has never tried to make an audience cry on command, eight shows a week, using only his voice and his face.

The bottom line is this: intelligence shows up in many forms, and the moment you decide only your own form counts, you've already proven you don't have enough of it to recognise the rest.

Your Excellency, Governor of Ekiti State,

I write this letter as a concerned citizen who genuinely wants to see Ekiti State thrive and reach its full potential.

For many of us who grew up in Ekiti or have spent years visiting Ado-Ekiti, there is a growing feeling that the state is not moving at the pace it should. While other states are actively attracting investments, empowering young people, and building modern economies, Ekiti risks being left behind.

One of the biggest concerns is the relationship between law enforcement and young people. In today’s digital economy, many young professionals work remotely as software developers, designers, content creators, digital marketers, traders, and entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, many of these young people often feel unfairly targeted and harassed simply because of how they look, the devices they carry, or the vehicles they drive.

A state cannot build a thriving technology ecosystem when its innovators and creatives constantly feel like suspects. Many talented Ekiti youths are relocating to Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, and abroad because they believe they have better opportunities and freedom elsewhere. This brain drain is costing the state valuable talent and future economic growth.

There is also concern about the pace of economic development. While private investors continue to acquire properties and establish businesses, many citizens believe more can be done to create an environment that encourages local entrepreneurship, attracts investment, and generates sustainable jobs.

Rather than relying solely on government employment, Ekiti should position itself as a hub for technology, agriculture, education, tourism, and innovation. The state’s greatest asset is its educated population, and this advantage should be fully leveraged.

End Unnecessary Police Harassment :

Establish a clear framework for policing that respects citizens’ rights.

Create a public complaint channel for reporting harassment.

Conduct regular training for security personnel on community policing.

Launch an Ekiti Digital Economy Initiative

Create technology hubs and innovation centers across the state.

Provide grants and support for startups and young entrepreneurs.

Partner with private technology companies to create jobs.

Retain and Attract Talent

Offer incentives for businesses that employ Ekiti youths.

Develop co-working spaces and reliable internet infrastructure.

Promote remote work opportunities and digital skills training.
Improve Infrastructure

Continue upgrading major roads and transportation networks.

Invest in stable power and internet connectivity.

Prioritize infrastructure projects that directly support economic growth.

Promote Investment and Business Growth
