We Need to Talk About X's 25,000 Characters Update.
For 17 years, Twitter was famous for one thing: 280 characters. You had to be short, sharp, and straight to the point.
That era is officially over.
If you're on X Premium or Premium+, you can now write up to 25,000 characters in a SINGLE post. That's not a tweet anymore. That's a full blog article. That's about 4,000 words.
*What this really means:*
*1. X is no longer just micro-blogging.* It's competing with Medium, Substack, and LinkedIn Articles. You can now write full guides, stories, and threads inside ONE post with bold headings, italics, and bullet points.
*2. The 280 character limit is now a choice, not a rule.* Free users are still at 280. Premium users are playing a completely different game. It's the biggest gap between free and paid X has ever created.
*3. For creators and businesses, this is huge.* You don't need to break your thoughts into 20-part threads anymore. You can write detailed how-tos, product breakdowns, personal stories, and keep people reading on the platform instead of sending them to a link.
But here's my honest take:
Just because you CAN write 25,000 characters doesn't mean you SHOULD. People still come to X for fast thoughts. The best long posts will be 500-1,000 characters that actually say something detailed, not 25k of fluff.
The feature is powerful. But clarity will still beat length every time
