After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.

I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.

It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC.

Its a pleasure to have Deputy Minister @NsinghNarend speak about the extensive adaptation planning already done, and the challenge of raising climate finance for implementation of these plans. We need new predictable, fit-for-purpose finance, capable of leveraging up private finance at scale. The recently promulgated Climate Change Act creates legal basis for setting up a Climate Change Response Fund.

The Climate Change Act sets up a mitigation management system. This includes a national greenhouse gas emissions trajectory for South Africa, reviewed every 5 years. 10/

In terms of the trajectory, emissions targets can be set for sectors and sub-sectors of economy, and the Ministers responsible for regulating those sectors need to give effect to them through policies and measures. 11/

The DFFE Minister can publish a list of greenhouse gases and activities associated with those gases. If you engage in a listed activity, a carbon budget can be set and you need to develop a greenhouse gas mitigation plan. 12/
