When you play live you have to balance the past with the future and the longer you stick around the harder it gets. I used to feel guilty about playing songs that people don't know but now it feels triumphant. I know what's good and what's bad. I know what I feel and what I want to say. I honestly feel that I am more of a writer than a pop singer. I love live shows and I live shamelessly with the bum notes because I care more about the frequency that is created with an audience. You see people leave and you take it personally but you play for those that stay. For the bunch of 'Bears' freaking out to 'King Of Everything' the other night. One person right at the back dancing like crazy can make it all worthwhile.
I know how to write a good hook and I'm no longer intimidated or baffled by the art of songwriting. For me, self expression is all about context. Strip back most songs and they sound pretty dumb or obvious. Very few artists are capable of writing deeply poetic lyrics like Joni Mitchell but no one captured simplicity like Bob Marley and if Bob Dylan only ever wrote 'It Ain't Me Babe' it would be more than enough. It matters to whom it matters.

This is a foolish video by liberals satirizing President Trump. However, if judged solely on entertainment value, it deserves a silver medal.

A drone appears above your head / A MOAB bomb comes falling down on you / ... The fleet is moving nearer still / The Strait of Hormuz it comes in view / The oil must flow through.
A tiny hand hits a big red button / Atomic bombs come falling down on you / ... Send out a tweet to let you know / World War III ’cause Israel told me to / All for Netanyahu.

OK. Next, let's request 'Idiot Killed the Republican Star' from them.
