Remembering the great Django Reinhardt who was born on this day in 1910. Reinhardt is considered to be one of the few Europeans of his day to make a serious impact on jazz.
For most of his career Reinhardt played in the swing style that reached its peak of popularity in the 1930s.
Perhaps his most lasting influence on jazz was the introduction of solos based on melodic improvisation, at a time when guitarists generally played chorded solos. His inimitable improvisations, particularly those in slow tempos, were often a curious but beguiling blend of Roma and jazz sounds.
Here, Reinhardt and his band are performing in a train car. Taken from a 1953 French-Italian comedy called “La Route du Bonheur”, this clip is one of the few known footages of Django.
On Veterans Day, we owe our veterans and their families our thanks, our respect, and our freedom. To all those who bravely served, thank you for your service to our country.
In our daily lives, we don’t often openly discuss our feelings about death and dying. So where can people go to have those conversations?

San Francisco will be the first city in California to create new Entertainment Zones, starting with Front Street in Downtown.
This legislation will bring new economic opportunities and vitality to our city by allowing restaurants and bars to sell open beverages during outdoor events.
Thank you Senator @Scott_Wiener for changing state law to allow us to support our small businesses and make San Francisco an even more vibrant place to live and visit.
Stay tuned for more Entertainment Zones news as we work with our partners @UnionSquareSF , Thrive City @ChaseCenter , @HarringtonsBar , @ROYALEXCHANGESF , and Market Street Arts.
