When you’re so lazy & irresponsible you can’t even come up with a specific person or thing to blame for all the “unnecessary death” that you caused, so you just say “somebody a long time ago decided not to do it that way.”
Somebody. A long time ago. 🤦🏼♂️
We’ve gone from crawling to walking, but we need more knowledge, better understanding, and better tools before we can hope to really run. The other option is going to be to shrug and accept that what we’ve got is “good enough” 😕

The math for #insulin dosing is already too complex for humans to handle. We need automation, and the automation still has lots of room to improve. Better tools (faster insulin analogs) are going to be necessary too.
What’s the calculation for an insulin to fat ratio? How should a fat-covering bolus be timed? What about protein? I feel that with answers to these questions, the #wearenotwaiting crowd could take the baton and crank out better algorithms for dosing.
We still need to improve our understanding of differences in macronutrient metabolism. We need more basic research and then better models based on that research.
While I can get my TIR and other control measures where I want them, I’m coloring outside the lines based on faulty and simplistic assumptions and calculations in order to get there.
We need better tools. My miscalculations were pragmatic- based on achieving the desired results based on imperfect data and overly simplistic models and tools, because NOBODY is looking at how to account for macronutrients other than carbohydrates.
#T1D Things I learned today:
1) my insulin duration is about twice as long as I thought it was.
2) my insulin sensitivity is higher than I thought it was
3) my misconceptions were likely due to an inability to account for protein, fat, and fiber.
