@TheHiddenOneAC Keep in mind, it was also 2013 where action schlock was all the rage in the horror scene with RE6 and the later FEAR games. Just felt fresh, especially in a pre-FNAF era

@TheHiddenOneAC Outlast is definitely shock value, but it also felt more than that. It honestly does panic horror really well, arguably more than any other game with it. Stripping you of any way to defend yourself and resorting to night vision allowed it to stand out in an indie market
