Safe relationships give you a break from fight, flight, freeze or fawn. Your vulnerability is threatened by people who do not see and hear you, especially when you’re in pain. So when you are seen and heard, it is a welcomed break from a tired mind in survival mode.
Sometimes after we endure trauma, we have to give up activities, hobbies, or interests that we really loved, because they're just too triggering or sad for us now.
It's a loss. It matters. Whether or not it's a permanent loss, you get to be sad-- or mad-- about it.
#SARG2023 now David Thorpe on autism and employment. Employment is important for everyone, but autistic adults are underemployed. Only 22% of autistic adults are employed! Despite the push for workplace neurodiversity / neurodiversity as strength
What do Peer support relationships look like? 👀
They share power and responsibility. It is not a hierarchical or paternalistic relationship. It is a collaborative and reciprocal relationship, where both people have something to offer and something to gain 🫶

Many conversations around forgiveness shame the survivor for how they’re coping with being traumatized. To suggest the survivor is unforgiving takes focus away from the abusers horrific actions. To help someone heal, hold their abuser accountable & let the survivor heal in peace.
Do people realise that autistic adults were once autistic children? That just because we’re alive and communicating doesn’t mean we didn’t develop completely differently to everyone else, haven’t been traumatised at every stage of life and not constantly managing burnout. 🤦🤷♀️
If your neurodivergent inclusive policies only kick in when someone discloses that they're neurodivergent, then these policies are not truly inclusive of neurodivergent people. As much as it can be, accessibility should be inbuilt, not reliant on diagnosis or disclosure.
Autistic people may need more rest time than the average NT person. This isn’t because we are lazy, it is because it’s depleting navigating a society that: thinks, communicates and operates differently to you; and isn’t structured to support your needs or give you regular boosts.

A brilliant example of listening to the autistic community, acknowledging a mistake and apologising. 👏😊 Looking forward to seeing how this learning will help individuals accessing services.
We're sorry for the offence caused by our recent tweet about autism, which we've now removed. Thank you for sharing your feedback. We'll use this as an opportunity to learn

@Yogaimmunity@Wincrotty1@milton_damian For me, the main concern about CBT is that it doesn’t take into account the level of injustice & hostility autistic people face. CBT suggests that wellness comes from shifts in thinking. This locates the ‘problem’ within the individual rather than exploring the impact of inequity
