The interpretive stance that you hold is arguing, not with me, but with over 2000 years of Orthodox Church history, which was handed down to them by the Eastern Church Fathers despite anyone’s poor scholarship in a meme.

He ironically got something right in the sense that we depend on God(F,S,S)’s faithfulness, not a faith originating from us.

Just as we all depend on God‘s faithfulness, ALL will be salted by the 🔥 of God(F,S,S), which is what Hell truly is. Fortunately, for ALL of us, it is about healing and restoration, not a never ending suffering or torture. Yes, there is hell to pay, but it’s not Dante‘s version that most of us in Western Protestantism have been taught.

I get the existing eagerness and need to claim two distinctly different events, but what you are hoping for is not directly demonstrated by these two passage references in Revelation 4 and 19.

Revelation 4 does not explicitly depict the rapture; it depicts John’s visionary ascent into heaven. Revelation 19 depicts Christ’s victorious return in apocalyptic imagery, but Revelation frequently recapitulates the same end-time realities from different perspectives. Therefore, these chapters do not “prove” two distinct events; the distinction is interpretive, not explicit in the text.

If you are open to a much older understanding of these passages, I would encourage you to go to your local Orthodox church and ask them about their perspectives on how to interpret and understand these passages.

I’m not saying they get everything correct about Scripture, but they are certainly worthy of a listen.

If you don’t have an Orthodox church in your community, then here’s a brief starter… Orthodox teaching affirms a “being caught up” (from the Greek harpagēsometha in 1 Thessalonians 4:17) of the faithful to meet the Lord in the air. This is not a secret, separate event that removes believers before a Great Tribulation. It is part of the single, visible, glorious Second Coming of Christ at the end of the age, when the dead in Christ rise, the living are transformed, all meet the descending Lord, judgment follows, and His tangible Kingdom is established.

A quick reminder that We are God’s temple, not a building on the temple mount in Jerusalem.
