Eren could never have set her free as they are both alike in being "slaves" to fate. Mikasa had to be the one to show its possible to break free from that by doing what had to be done and Killing Eren, not out of hate but out of love. I don't see whats wrong here?

Thats not it at all. Eren and Ymir were both trapped to fate. Eren was the key to setting up the scenario that would set them both free (Mikasa killing Eren) Eren didn't really show her compassion here, it was a means to an end that they both knew and understood what would happen
