Update on our journey through SA: Time for a change! We've traded in our Land Rover Discovery for a reliable Toyota Fortuner. It’s a sad day as the former has been with us for 10 years. I proposed to my gorgeous wife in landie. But, it’s time to move on. Today, we're finalizing the purchase and regrouping as we reconsider the route to Cape Town with its challenging weather conditions.

Though it's been a setback, we're determined to continue exploring the best and most beautiful places in SA, just as we encourage you to join @MeVisionAcademy to explore your True Self on a journey towards your Best Self. Every one of us are in the midst of #leadership training…always. It starts from young. It’s ongoing and a daily occurrence. Even though one’s career starts out technically, as a specialist, it’s part of your overall leadership training. You Lead technically at first, with minimal “others” leadership, though it’s there. So leading Self at first, then more and more leading of others, followed by organisation and society. But all along you always lead Self. Don’t ever lose sight of that. Don’t be swept away by the leading of others, organisation and society so much that you forget to Lead that all important Self, daily.

One of the most important tasks we as a society can perform is to raise human beings that will be powerful, caring, values driven Leaders in families, schools, churches, businesses, politics and civic society. Good or bad #leadership is and always will be the hinges upon which the door of society swings.

Leading Self requires answering two questions comprehensively:

1. Who am I really - True Self?
2. Who am I wanting to become - Best Self?

I was delighted to visit on Saturday with South Africa Deputy President, His Excellency Paul Mashatile. This was the first time that a leader from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had the opportunity to visit with such a senior leader of this wonderful country.

The Church has been pleased to be involved in efforts to help relieve suffering and empower the people of South Africa in recent years—including through disaster relief, support for youth employment initiatives, and subsistence farming initiatives.

I shared with the Deputy President that our desire to assist comes from our divine mandate as followers of Jesus Christ to obey the two great commandments—to love God and to love our neighbor.

During the visit, I shared with His Excellency a personalized copy of the Book of Mormon. I told him that this special book brings me closer to Jesus Christ and is the most precious gift I could share with him.

The world needs answers to questions of everyday life and of eternal life to come. We all need to know of God’s abiding love for us. This is all in the Book of Mormon.

I am grateful for the wonderful meeting with Deputy President Mashatile and feel blessed to see the amazing partnership happening in this beautiful land.

The power of choice lies with you. Choose what you will focus on today.

Lead yourself. Lead others. Lead organisation. Lead society. But most of all Lead Self.

All of us always:
1. Lead Self
2. Lead (Influence) others
3. Lead organisation (or a part of it)
4. Lead Society

And all of us are constantly influenced by these four universal levels.

“Leading self” is the foundation block for the other three. A weak, unprepared, unhealthy and therefore unqualified self affects the next level of leading others - think of the lasting impact of far to many weak, unprepared, unhealthy and unqualified parent-child, teacher-student, boss-employee relationships. If “others” are not led (influenced) effectively it compounds into impacting yet more others and organisations, which in turn directly influence society on so many fronts.

And these days the self skips the other two levels and goes straight to society - social media is a case in point.

We cannot do enough to learn the art of leading self!
