This is always hard to talk about: being a man and a SW.

Most women understand consent perfectly, but some are taught that “men only want one thing,” and so they see their bodies as a gift all men want.

But I don’t like receiving deeply intimate gifts from strangers.

One of the most violating things about this is that, yes, the people sexually harassing me are very beautiful. My body does feel desire towards them, but my mind is filled with anxiety, upset, and fear. It’s similar to what many men experience with SA, something I am also a survivor of. It’s an awful feeling and makes you question yourself, if you’re allowed to even feel violated if you got turned on.

“Just name and shame” (fight) is not possible. I’m a man with a large platform inviting a hoard of people to attack a woman. I don’t need to explain why that isn’t a great look for me.

“Just block” (flight) I do mostly, but sometimes these are people in my community or another creator. This can hurt my career. To have someone going around saying “I don’t like Billy” and when asked why “I don’t want to talk about it” is not a great look for a community filled with Google Docs and a new male VA getting cancelled for having a secret sex harem every season.

Sometimes though, I have to fawn. I have to coddle these women. Gently parent them so they don’t crash out or attack me. Let them down gently. Teach them this is the same as sending an unsolicited dick pic. That they have become the very same men that they laugh at or publicly disparage with their friends.

And when they “realize” that? They’re mortified. They’re deeply apologetic. They beg for forgiveness. Self-flagellate. And I have to gently tell them it’s not okay, but they can learn and do better. It’s so emotionally draining I’ve had to take entire days off.

I hope the women I’ve done that for have stopped and grown from it. I want people to do better and believe they can.

It’s really simple. You want to send a lewd or nude to someone new? Ask. Don’t rob them of their choice.

Don’t take away their “no”. It’s not yours to take.

Everyone deserves a choice.
