JUST IN: The Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association of Namibia has taken Minister of Justice and Labour Relations Wise Immanuel, the Magistrates Commission and five other respondents to the High Court, seeking to overturn decisions linking magistrates’ housing and vehicle allowances to public service grades.

If unopposed, the matter will be heard on 11 September. The association is represented by Florian Beukes of Metcalfe Beukes Attorneys.

LABOUR LAWS BREACHED … A labour parliamentary standing committee has revealed that the Rani Retail and Wholesale Group has not been tax compliant and that it only directly employs its managers while outsourcing other staff. It was also found that thousands of workers are paid strictly in cash, which prevents the Namibia Revenue Agency from tracking tax compliance and leaves employees without the bank statements needed to secure housing, loans and other essential services, the committee announced on Wednesday.
