I like to make things...food, beer, laws, trouble, whatever. I ❤️ public schools. Principals rock! The world is cool & I intend to see all of it. Go green!
It’s lame duck. The House GOP members left hours ago. But session is still going and the House GOP staffers are still here! Throwing some love their way for proving that staff is the heart of good government on both sides of the aisle. Tip of the hat to you guys!
It’s #lameduck session & the lobby is packed here at the MI Capitol. So many things going on. Remember though “lots going on” is very different than “lots getting done.” Still, looks like we’re gonna run around like chickens w/ our heads cut off for the next month. #miched@massp
Joining @PrincipalLietz in Macomb County this morning for the first of three PD sessions w/ principals as part of the @MacombISD Learning Leadership series. Thanks for welcoming @massp to Macomb County!
Detroit superintendent Vitti is urging lawmakers to keep all savings from Whitmer's pension maneuver in Sec. 147 - it'd enable MI to lower what districts pay to 14% of payroll, from 21%, freeing up $ for schools locally. Whitmer wants much of that $ for other education spending.
Other highlights from the House budget include a $217/pupil (2.25%) foundation allowance increase, an $11.3M spec ed bump, continuation of the per pupil mental health and safety grants, a $70.1M (7.25%) at risk increase, & $5M (12.25%) ELL increase. #miched#mibudget
All told, the House K-12 budget rec is an excellent budget proposal for #miched. Thank you to to budget chair State Representative Regina Weiss for an excellent K-12 budget that prioritizes students and schools. #miched#mibudget
House budget also continues $ for educator mentoring programs, creates a new fellowship for APs aspiring to the principalship & continues funding for many educator recruitment programs: student teacher stipend, teacher prep scholarship, GYO funding. #miched#mibudget
The House K-12 budget is out & the headline is a $291M ongoing investment in reducing district MPSERS costs. Since the source of the funding for this change comes from redirecting MPSERS debt payment savings, MASSP applauds this reinvestment in our classrooms. #mibudget#miched
@BobKefgen @MRCCUnion @schoolstotools The @MRCCUnion brought their @SchoolsToTools Mobile Field Trip to the Capitol today and MASSP’s @BobKefgen got to visit! Did you know you can bring this exhibit to your building. Visit https://t.co/QGa2w9FSTp for more information. #miched
Thanks to @MRCCUnion for the chance to take a @schoolstotools Mobile Field Trip at the Capitol! Got to do some framing, virtual welding, & even virtually visit the Gordie Howe Bridge. Wasn’t quite able to drive a 16D nail in a single swing but got close! @massp#miched
Here we go! Principals are meeting with legislators in DC today to advocate for essential needs in schools: student/staff mental health and educator recruitment/retention! #principalsadvocate@massp@NASSP
What an experience the National School Leaders’ Advocacy Conference in D.C. has been, with over 400 school leaders from all 50 states! Closing keynote is underway, and we are hearing from @SecCardona. “Results, not rhetoric!”

Per @LDH_ed, Principals play a key role in enabling schools to adjust practice to meet the needs of today’s students and serve the whole child. Great presentation at the @NASSP/@NAESP advocacy conference. @massp@MEMSPA#principalsadvocate
So thrilled to be in DC to support public education. The opportunity to learn and advocate with @NASSP@GWaples@massp@wendyzdeb@BobKefgen
and with other MASSP Board members as well as members of @MEMSPA is amazing! Thank You!
