Happy Birthday, America! 250 looks very good on this land! Despite the media-hyped partisanship and predictions of imminent collapse, our Nation remains strong and vital and full of the Promise set forth in our founding poem signed by those courageous patriots setting forth on a dangerous and radical path. Throughout the following two and a half centuries, the remarkable vision of our Founders; that each of us, endowed by a benevolent Creator, could be, could have, could build anything! That this Nation was founded on ideals, not identity, that we would govern ourselves and that our citizens would look to the future with eyes that saw possibilities and opportunity and that we would foster those dreams.
The poets of our history, Thomas Jefferson, whose inspired words led a Nation’s awakening; Abraham Lincoln, standing on the battlefield of Gettysburg, whose words gave a grieving, splintered Land hope and purpose; Martin Luther King, Jr., whose words in the Nation’s heart led a Nation ever-closer to fulfilling the promise Jefferson penned and Lincoln affirmed.
I am proud to be American! I am proud of this Land and its history, especially those pieces where we overcome our “…darker Angels…” and bend toward our Founding Promise. It has been an unbelievable journey and the future promises to be even more incredible. It is a grave disappointment that I won’t be able to witness it all! Happy Birthday!
@krassenstein It will be overturned. HHS has broad discretion over how and what Federal food assistance programs can and will fund. You can’t buy alcohol, for example. As long as taxpayers are funding, the Administration will have authority to regulate the program.
@WolfgangRichtEU Actually, only the SpaceX portion of his wealth increased by 58%. So, clearly finance is not your strongest card. But, you sound an awful lot like the Bolsheviks and the Nazis. We all know how that turned out!
@MEVANS72 And, she didn’t do anything to earn it! She is the epitome of what the Left despises in the wealthy. And, yet, you hold her out as your exemplar when she has no role in creating the wealth she holds!
No, your trillion dollars couldn’t end any of the issues you enumerated. And, whatever good you believe it could do, it wouldn’t last. It’s not enough and not permanent. Having those businesses, which the wealth represents, operating for decades into the future is vastly more valuable than some conceited, virtue-signaling display of excess that fails on every level!
Well, sure...after a 25% cumulative increase in the cost of living during the 4 years of the Biden administration, a one-month 3% reading seems like a win. But, it's worth noting two things here:
First, the CPI rate when Biden took office was 1.4%! He managed to drive it to 9.1% by 2022! That rate represents the highest on record since the late 70's and early 80's. A period that represented the highest, longest period of inflation in US history! Also, that 12 month increase in 2022 represents the largest 12 month delta in US history!
Second, the Fed's current obsession with a 2% target rate is historically illiterate. The strongest periods of economic prosperity in US history have tended to coincide with long-run inflation rates of 3-4%. Moderate inflation is economically stimulative and supports labor market success.
