Find out more about the work of @BobbyBeaumont89, @CcnUob PGR, and his fieldwork in Lebanon! Take a look at his blog and find out more about his vitally important research project and impact on the lives of children: https://t.co/THUIzxtDvz
@FlyingSeagullUK research blog officially launching! Written by yours truly. First post is up, just a wee intro. More posts written and will be up in the coming weeks. https://t.co/aZdn09AGE5
Benno and the team have arrived in Lebanon! The children woke up to the sound of our musicians before a day of shows and games, and were thrilled to see us again! These kids deserve the moments of magic, laughter and wonder that make a proper childhood.
Things I have learnt in my first two weeks in the field; being a clown does wonderful things for access to gatekeepers and participants; journal writing using dictation software has changed my life; too much humus leads to insomnia! #phdlife#Lebanon
Bash has written a book! The ethics, philosophy & approach we've developed over the last decade can now reach even more people. If you want a copy, you can really help us out by pre-ordering now. Join our Real Play Revolution and spread smiles worldwide! https://t.co/0KPyRqCRSB
Whilst I'm in Lebanon with one team, Wolfy has a team in Greece. She returned to a camp the other day and the kids had prepared their own games and songs to play with the Seagulls! If that's not cool I don't know what is.
Wolfy & the Miles of Smiles team are in Greece with kids we met on last year's Big Top tour! They're excited to see us again & they've come up with their own songs and games! Every child has right to develop their creativity and imagination so let's make sure none miss out!
@playingout@FlyingSeagullUK My pleasure! Your work looks amazing, as a PhD student researching play, its so refreshing to find a movement that understands the power in simply playing. The multiple benefits of play are so well documented, but simply having fun is taken for granted. Thanks for not doing that!
This is an amazing project built around the simple idea that all children have the "chance for free, joyful play, with its intrinsic value in making their lives better and happier." An idea most certainly shared by all of us @FlyingSeagullUK. Read and share people!
Playing Out is published! International academic journal Cities and Health has published a case-study of the grassroots street play movement, written by Playing Out co-founder Alice Ferguson. https://t.co/eOO9eINzoZ @tandfonline
Here's a little video introducing Bobby No Good PhD to the @FlyingSeagullUK community! Just landed in Lebanon to start my field work with the Seagull team. Watch this space for updates!
Here's a quick announcement from our Seagull, Bobby No Good! As well as volunteering with us, he's doing a PhD on social circus & play, drawing on his work with the Seagulls in refugee camps. Give him a follow @BobbyBeaumont89 if you want to keep up-to-date with his research!
@WainHw@TEDxJAX ... and this video has more info about us: https://t.co/ELy03UtrpP. Finally, @BobbyBeaumont89 is one of our Seagulls who's also doing a PhD focusing on work he's been doing with us - we're looking forward to hearing more from him about the theory behind play! ...
Here's the piece I wrote for the ESRC writing comp. It's a tiny insight into the work of the @FlyingSeagullUK and will be the first of many pieces of non academic writing I'll be sharing about my research. Enjoy.
New series on @ESRC Writing Competition on how PhD students #research leads too better lives! 12 essays were shortlisted w/ 2 winners. We start w/ @BobbyBeaumont89 whose research focuses on how play & arts-based interventions play out in #refugee camps. https://t.co/P635AtUyMu
..I then spent yesterday rushing around Nottingham and Leicester shopping for new costume for field work and theatre projects. Before sitting back at my desk and writing research funding applications.
What an odd but exciting #PhD I find myself doing!
..I'm new to devising #theatre but really enjoyed it. Another clown said it felt like "cracking a code" and I most certainly agree. It was also great to spend a bit of time with Bobby No Good (my clown) before I take him out into the 'field' and into the world of the #PhD..2/3
What a weekend! It began with being a finalist at the @ESRC writing comp. I didn't win but got a fancy pen with my name on it :) congrats to @IanRossUK and Rosie for winning.
Following that I spent the weekend devising a new show @FlyingSeagullUK are taking to Lebanon...1/3
According to scientists working on animal play, when two rats play fight or play compete, the bigger rat lets the littler rat win 30% of the time just to keep life more interesting. Learning this made me extremely happy. The universe isn't as bad as we like to think.
