Fox has been injured and he’s never been a great shooter and more reliant on his quickness. So obviously he’s not going to be as good when his athleticism is hindered. The offense definitely looks better with him even if he’s missing a lot of shots because he has experience and knows how to dictate pace better than Harper and Castle at the moment and he’s been great down the stretch as well like you said. He’s definitely been needed even if the box score doesn’t really support it. A couple years from now he probably won’t be needed though.
I mean shi we were obviously if we’re not at full power. Not sure what you expect from a team that lost their best player that has the highest usage on the team and depends on him more than other stars. Butler definitely had a good series but that’s didn’t maintain throughout the rest of the playoffs because he went against healthier better coached teams.
I mean watch the games he’s still a top 20 defender imo. His advanced stats support it as well. His rim protection and help side defense is still pretty much near the top. I would say he’s just bad against fast guards because he no longer has that quickness he once did. It just looks like he’s regressed because his team has been near the bottom in the league in defense but that’s because the players play dumb and overhelp so people are always open but the problem is mainly on the perimeter. You are right that he’s not near that DPOY level but he’s still definitely like top 20.
@Francisco_vcm@LowlifeRick_@34for2 I mean he’s still like a top 20 defender he’s just no longer like in top 5 conversations. A lot of his defensive stats have gone down though since his overall team defense has been terrible because of an old roster and then a young inexperienced roster with a garbage coach.
@Usedtothissss@bigdawggtjj I would say he more so relies on physicality than athleticism, it’ll be harder for him to use his quickness which does help him get to the rim a lot but he’ll always be a threat whenever you give him a little bit of space.
@bigdawggtjj Yeah and it’s obvious how much he’s improved all around if people actually watched games but they don’t watch the bucks and at most just watch the box score and highlights.
You could literally make an argument that every ring is a hospital ring like the Thunder playing the pacers without Haliburton in Game 7. Celtics playing a Mavericks team playing through injuries. I could go on and on. Winning a championship is hard to do even with teams having injuries and for the most part they’re uncontrollable.
People are painting Wemby to be better than Giannis already. He does have the potential for sure and obviously he’s better than 22 year old Giannis but he hasn’t peaked as high as Giannis and I don’t think he’s better than him right now because offensively Giannis is still at his peak he just hasn’t had a team nearly as good as the Spurs have given Wemby.
@DraeSantana@allthingsmn@KnicksBeast People are still giving most the credit to Brunson. Not saying Brunson hasn’t been good because he’s been pretty decent despite the efficiency but by far the biggest game changer has been KAT but Brunson will always be considered the King of New York.
@AlainLamour91@MarzTalksSports Yeah I know Caleb averaged that in the ECF but that was arguably a more important game than the first round and against a better team.
Teams were about equal when you take into account how good of a coach Spo is. They just played like shit in the regular season but defensively and offensively ever player exceeded expectations I mean Caleb Martin was averaging 20 with 60% from the field and almost 50% from three while playing decent defense
Production output vs the competition? Did I not just explain they faced completely different bucks teams. One without their best player and after a couple years of injuries to Middleton and Brook Lopez, with Bud also main no adjustments probably because he wasn’t in the right mental state. Kawhi faced the Bucks who had won 60 games and had a pretty healthy team while guarding their best player and averaging 30 a game.
You’re acting like Jimmy was the one shooting shots for them and defending. Like you’re completely ignoring had a top 3 defender of the last 10 years who outperformed him in the finals. Caleb Martin arguably outperformed him in the ECF. He also has arguably a top 5 coach of all time. He’s not playing with bums.
You act like Jimmy’s supporting cast didn’t play out of their minds. Yes they’re basically no names but they performed when it mattered which was the playoffs. Now they’re complete bums but in the playoffs in 2023 they were great. Largely do to Spo which is a far better coach than Nick Nurse. Later in the playoffs some of them Id say outperformed Jimmy, like his success didn’t maintain past the first round. He wasn’t terrible but he didn’t play as great when he faced teams that were healthy and actually made adjustments.
Yeah if you’re looking at strictly stats then maybe but when you add in context like the team they were facing then it falls out to like top 50. Hardly as impressive when the teams best player is out more than half the series and the coach makes zero defensive adjustments. It’s for sure still impressive to beat a 1st seed as an 8th seeded team but at the same time it’s a 1st seed at like 60-70% of ther full power.
@mortezmh@MarzTalksSports Context matters, Jimmy went against a far worse team that had to deal with uncontrollable variables whereas Kawhi didn’t and had to guard Giannis who had just won an MVP and did a good job doing so.
