The antisemitic murder of two young people at the Capital Jewish museum in Washington D.C. is devastating. May the memories of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky be a blessing. My heart hurts for them, their families, and everyone who is concerned about threats to their families and communities.

Antisemitism is real. It's toxic. And we must fight it. Anyone who doubts that could just read comments on my social media posts over the past few weeks. It’s also almost always bound up with other forms of hate that threaten our shared humanity. As attorney general, I’ll fight to make sure everyone in this state feels safe and protected from violence and hate.

The fight against antisemitism must never become a tool to silence peaceful dissent or to punish those crying out about injustice or the loss of innocent life, including in Gaza. We can and must defend both the right to speak and the right to live free from hate and fears of violence. That’s not a contradiction—it’s the foundation of a healthy, democratic society. As attorney general, I’ll fight to protect the fundamental right to freedom of speech.

Jewish communities across the country, including my community, often read from a prayer for peace. “All who live on earth shall realize we have not come into being to hate or destroy. We have come into being to praise, to labor, and to love.” To praise, to labor, and to love. May we hold fast to that truth.
