‼️‼️🇨🇿 BIG | The Czech Republic is preparing for the possibility that Europe could once again face a prolonged, high-intensity war with Russia. Prague is increasingly treating deterrence not as a political slogan, but as a long-term national project built around stronger forces, modern technology and a society capable of functioning during a major security crisis.

Under a draft national defence strategy extending to 2045, Russia is identified as the country’s principal security threat and the Czech military is to be prepared for a sustained high-intensity conflict. Prague plans to strengthen its armed forces, introduce 24 F-35 fighters, modernize two brigades and expand space-based intelligence capabilities. By 2030, authorities also intend to establish a new system for preparing the population for crisis situations. Military service would remain voluntary in peacetime, while the state would gain greater ability to mobilize citizens with medical, technical and IT expertise if circumstances require it.

Prague’s approach reflects a reality that much of Europe has been painfully slow to absorb since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. NATO deterrence cannot rest on expensive platforms alone. It requires ammunition stocks, industrial capacity, trained reserves, resilient infrastructure and civilians prepared for prolonged disruption. Recent assessments still warn that Europe would struggle to sustain a long war of attrition without major improvements in these areas. The Czech strategy is therefore moving in the right direction, but Europe as a whole will need the same urgency if it wants to deter Russia rather than discover its weaknesses only after another crisis begins.

It was Fighter Command’s worst day of the Battle of Britain.

It was also the day Britain finally unleashed the Poles!

On August 31, 1940, the Luftwaffe hammered airfields across southeast England. Fighter Command lost 39 aircraft, 31 in the air and eight on the ground. Ten pilots were killed or fatally wounded.

That afternoon, No. 303 Polish Squadron flew its first operational combat patrol. Its pilots claimed four "One-O-Nine" destroyed and two more probably destroyed.

They had already fought over Poland and France, but language barriers and British doubts about their readiness had kept them waiting.

Forty-two days later, No. 303 had been officially credited with 126 victories, the highest claimed total of any Fighter Command squadron during the battle.

The precise wartime tally remains debated. Their extraordinary impact does not!

The legendary No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron became operational on 31 August 1940.
Despite joining the Battle of Britain nearly two months after it began, the squadron achieved the highest number of confirmed victories of any Allied fighter squadron during the battle, claiming 126 German aircraft destroyed in just six weeks.
What a testament to the skill, courage and determination of the Polish pilots who fought alongside the RAF!

‼️‼️🇵🇱🇷🇺⚠️ Poland is warning NATO not to place too much faith in Russian assurances, arguing that Moscow’s past promises have already proved dangerously unreliable.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that Russian intelligence officials apparently told CIA Director John Ratcliffe that Vladimir Putin would not provoke NATO. Sikorski pointedly recalled that Putin had previously given a similar assurance to President Biden’s CIA director before Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, using that precedent to cast doubt on Moscow’s latest message.

For Warsaw, the conclusion is straightforward: verbal guarantees from the Kremlin cannot substitute for military preparedness. With concern rising over possible Russian pressure against NATO’s eastern flank, Sikorski’s warning reinforces Poland’s push to accelerate rearmament, strengthen deterrence and prepare for the possibility that Moscow may once again say one thing while planning another.

Nazi Germany and the USSR invaded Poland. The Bolshevik Russians invaded Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania.

🛩🇵🇱 Jego wyczyn był wizytówką tego, co potrafią polscy piloci. Antoni Głowacki był pierwszym pilotem, który w czasie Bitwy o Anglię uzyskał status „asa w jeden dzień”.
🗓️ Zestrzelił pięć maszyn wroga podczas trzech lotów bojowych przeprowadzonych 24 sierpnia 1940 roku.

‼ To nie były jedyne sukcesy Polaka – zgodnie z tzw. listą Bajana miał na koncie 8 i 1/3 pewnych zestrzeleń oraz kilka prawdopodobnych.

⚠ Nasz as latający w składzie 501 dywizjonu myśliwskiego „County of Gloucester" został zestrzelony tydzień później, rozbijając swojego „szczęśliwego" („Lucky-A") Hurricane'a. Poważnie ranny wrócił do służby w 1941 roku, jako pilot w Dywizjonie 303. W czasie wojny kilkukrotnie zmieniał przydział, kończąc swoje zmagania w Dywizjonie 302 🇵🇱.

🌏 Głowacki nie wrócił po wojnie do Polski – osiadł w Nowej Zelandii, pracując jako instruktor lotniczy.

🎖 Za wojenne zasługi odznaczono go m. in. Virtuti Militari, czterokrotnie Krzyżem Walecznych i brytyjskim Distinguished Flying Cross.

🏴 Głowacki zmarł na obczyźnie w 1980 roku.
