Excellent day at the Katsura Campus of Kyoto University. So much great science being done here. Special thanks to Koji Miki and Kouichi Ohe for hosting in spectacular fashion.
Had a wonderful day visiting Aiko Fukazawa at Kyoto University, Yoshida Campus. Marvelous lunch at a >100 year old house belonging to Kyoto University, superb scientific discussions and an amazing dinner.
@awhspeed@ndchiappini The isomer shown is the pseudo-para isomer, which is indeed a chiral by virtue of an inversion point. Resolution of the acid or aldehyde are common ways to obtain enantiomerically pure material. Check out Stefan Braese’s recent work.
@awhspeed I prefer the first way. I have never been a fan of reading the big points in the abstract and then being told them again at the end of the introduction. The repetition seems like a waste of time. Having a story doesn’t necessarily imply that it is long-winded. My two bits.
I lost a chemistry "hero" last night. Reg Mitchell was a way too big personality and a great chemist. He gave this young punk his first speaking slot at a chemistry conference back in 1997. It was so great to hang out with him one last time on Zoom this past Tuesday - RIP RHM. 😢
