At the beginning of his public life, Jesus formed a community with his disciples. These received the command from the Lord before ascending to Heaven: "Jesus came to them and spoke to them like this: 'All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28, 18-20)
The disciples spread the message of Salvation, creating communities mentioned in the New Testament: Hebrews, Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, Thessalonians, Colossians, Corinthians, Philippians. And in Revelation, Saint John mentions Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. Continuing the Mission, the Church has founded more than 220,000 parishes.
What does it have to do with us? Let's see: "The lay faithful are in the most advanced line of the life of the Church... Therefore they, especially, must have an increasingly clear awareness, not only of belonging to the Church, but of being the Church; that is, the community of the faithful on earth under the guidance of the common head, the Pope, and of the bishops in communion with him. They are the Church." (CIC 899; Pius XII, 1946; John Paul II, 1988, Apostolic Exhortation Christifideles laici, No.9). And "... They are, therefore, the Christians who are incorporated into Christ by baptism, who form the People of God and who participate in their own way in the functions of Christ, Priest, Prophet and King. They carry out, according to their condition, the mission of all the Christian people in the Church and in the world." (CIC 897; Lumen Gentium, 31, Paul VI)
It is said that challenges we Catholics face should lead us to “do something,” without knowing what, reflecting confusion. But the Church clearly exhorts: "Today a generous commitment is required from all the lay faithful to the service of the evangelizing mission, first of all with the constant witness of a daily life in accordance with the Gospel...; then, in particular, assuming the commitments that correspond to them in the service of the parish community." (Evangelii gaudium, n. 81: Acts of the Apostolic See 105 (2013); (1053-1054).

¿Lo sabías? ¡Vuelve a la Casa del Padre!
Al iniciar su vida pública, Jesús formó comunidad con sus discípulos. Estos recibieron el mandato del Señor antes de ascender al Cielo: “Jesús se acercó a ellos y les hablo así: ´Me ha sido dado todo poder en el cielo y en la tierra. Id, pues, y haced discípulos a todas las gentes, bautizándolas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, y ensenándoles aguardar todo lo que yo os he mandado”. (Mateo 28, 18-20)
Los discípulos esparcieron el mensaje de Salvación, creandocomunidades que menciona el Nuevo Testamento: Hebreos, Romanos, Gálatas, Efesios, Tesalonicenses, Colosenses, Corintios, Filipenses. Y en Apocalipsis, San Juan menciona Esmirna, Pérgamo, Tiatira, Sardes, Filadelfia y Laodicea.Continuando la Misión, la Iglesia ha fundado más de 220.000parroquias.
¿Qué tiene que ver con nosotros? Veamos: “Los fieles laicos se encuentran en la línea más avanzada de la vida de la Iglesia… Por tanto ellos, especialmente, deben tener conciencia, cada vez más clara, no sólo de pertenecer a la Iglesia, sino de ser la Iglesia; es decir, la comunidad de los fieles sobre la tierra bajo la guía del jefe común, el Papa, y de los obispos en comunión con él. Ellos son la Iglesia.” (CIC 899; Pío XII, 1946; Juan Pablo II, 1988, Exhortación Apostólica Christifideles laici, No.9). Y "… Son, pues, los cristianos que están incorporados a Cristo por el bautismo, que forman el Pueblo de Dios y que participan a su manera de las funciones de Cristo, Sacerdote, Profeta y Rey. Ellos realizan, según su condición, la misión de todo el pueblo cristiano en la Iglesia y en el mundo”. (CIC 897; Lumen Gentium, 31, Pablo VI)
Se dice que retos que enfrentamos los católicos nos deben llevar a “hacer algo”, sin saber qué, reflejando confusión. Pero la Iglesia claramente exhorta: “Hoy se requiere un generosocompromiso de todos los fieles laicos al servicio de la misión evangelizadora, ante todo con el testimonio constante de una vida cotidiana conforme al Evangelio…; después, en particular, asumiendo los compromisos que les corresponden al servicio de la comunidad parroquial.” (Evangelii gaudium, n. 81: Actas de la Sede Apostólica 105 (2013); (1053-1054).

Perhaps This Is the Answer
Do you come to Mass on Sundays, yet sense that you need “something” more? Perhaps you are right, and this brief article may help you find the answer.

Although it should not surprise us, in the 1960s the renowned Catholic theologian Karl Rahner, SJ (1904–1984), speaking about the spirituality of the times to come, stated: “The Christian of the future will be a mystic, or will not exist at all.” He foresaw the dangers of distractions and confusion emerging in the modern age. For Rahner, neither cultural habit nor family tradition alone would be able to withstand a society increasingly detached from Christianity. That is why he emphasized the need for “mysticism,” understood not as extraordinary phenomena, but as a personal experience of God — a personal encounter with Jesus, in whom, in daily life, we find the source that satisfies our inner thirst and reveals to us the meaning of life.

As if that were not enough, in 2025 the Catholic theologian Jaume Flaquer proposed, as a complement to Rahner’s insight, that “The Christian of the future will be community-centered, or will not exist.” In a time of growing individualism, while still living with the isolating effects left by COVID, and witnessing political, social, and technological changes that we do not fully understand, the call — as it has always been — is to encounter Jesus and become part of the community.

You may rightly say that this is nothing new. But the key is not whether it is new; but rather that perhaps we aren’t living it, and the Lord is inviting us to do so. That may be why, even though we attend Sunday Mass, we still feel that “something” is missing.
In the Church, the Lord heals and transforms us, and community life is a natural result of that transformation. It is the soil where faith bears fruit. Jesus Himself gave us the example by living in community with His disciples, who later founded other communities and helped build the Church through thousands of parishes, movements, ministries, apostolates, groups, organizations, and many other forms of community life for both religious and lay people that continue to this day.

A strong Catholic spirituality, together with living the faith, building relationships, and serving within a community, helps us grow and mature. It strengthens us as individuals, families, and the Church during these times filled with challenges and uncertainties.

Perhaps this article is part of the answer you have been waiting for, the invitation to take the step forward. The Church offers wide range of groups, apostolates, and ministries for people of all ages, whether single or married. There is a place waiting for you.

¿QUIZÁS ESTA SEA LA RESPUESTA?
¿Va a Misa los domingos, pero intuye que necesita “algo” más? Quizás esté en lo cierto y este breve articulo le puede ayudar a encontrar la respuesta.

Aunque no debería sorprendernos, en los años 1960´s el destacado teólogo católico Karl Raher, SJ (1904-1984), sobre la espiritualidad de los tiempos que se avecinaban, afirmó “El cristiano del futuro será místico o no será”, anticipando el peligro de distracciones y confusiones nacientes de la época moderna. Para Raher, ni el costumbrismo ni tradición familiar, podrían resistir la presión social deliberadamente anticristiana. Por eso advirtió la necesidad de la “mística”, entendida como experiencia personal de Dios, no como serie de fenómenos extraordinarios, sino encuentro personal con Jesús, en quien -en la vida diaria- encontramos la fuente que sacia nuestra sed interior y nos revela el sentido de la vida.

Por si no bastara, en 2025 el también teólogo católico Jaume Flaquer, SJ, propuso, para complementar el llamado de Raher, que “El cristiano del futuro será comunitario o no será”. En tiempos de mayor individualismo, viviendo aun las consecuencias aislacionistas del COVID, siendo testigos de transformaciones políticas, sociales y tecnológicas que no comprendemos bien…, el llamado, como ha sido siempre, es encontrarnos con Jesús e incorporarnos a la participación comunitaria. Usted podría decir, acertadamente, que no es nuevo. Pero la clave no es si esto es novedad, sino que quizás no lo estamos viviendo y el Señor nos invita a hacerlo. Por eso, aunque asistimos a Misa dominical, es posible que sintamos “algo” nos falta.

En la Iglesia el Señor nos sana, transforma, y la vida comunitaria es consecuencia natural. Es el terreno para dar frutos. Jesús nos dio el ejemplo, en comunidad con sus discípulos, que luego fundaron otras comunidades, avanzaron la Iglesia con miles de parroquias, movimientos, apostolados, grupos, organizaciones y tantas expresiones comunitarias para religiosos y laicos hasta nuestros días.

Poseer mística católica, sumado a relacionarse, vivir la fe, servir en comunidad, posibilitan crecer y madurar, fortaleciéndonos como personas, familias e Iglesia en estos tiempos de tantos retos y amenazas.

Quizás este breve articulo sea parte de la respuesta que ha estado esperando, la invitación a dar el paso adelante. La Iglesia cuenta con grupos, apostolados y ministerios para personas de todas las edades y sexo, solteros o casados. Hay un lugar que espera por ti.
