Today marks a historic milestone for Europe.

All 29 Schengen countries have successfully launched the Entry/Exit System — the digital backbone of EU border management system.

With the EES, we will know who enters and leaves the European Union, when and where. This achievement strengthens the security and integrity of our common borders.

Rolling out a large-scale IT system across the Union has been a complex and demanding task. I want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to making the EES a reality.

Compared to last year, we have recorded a drop in irregular border crossings of almost one-fifth. This shows that our common European migration policy is working.

The challenges remain significant – whether in the central Mediterranean, in Libya, or in the English Channel. We are tackling them together and with determination.

The fact that these efforts are paying off is shown by the sharp decline on the Western Balkan route, where our measures have led to a decrease of almost 95% compared to 2022.
