Once again, President Trump is picking a fight with our closest ally and next-door neighbor: Canada. He's reaching back to a Depression-era law that hasn't been touched in nearly a century, and legal experts already expect it to be struck down in court.
Western New Yorkers understand this relationship better than almost anyone in the country. Our industries thrive because we grow our trade with Canada, not because we tax it. These tariffs will raise prices for every American, and my community will be among the first to feel it.
Instead of picking fights with our closest friend, President Trump should be focused on doing the job he was elected to do: making life more affordable for working families.

Donald Trump just imposed a 50% tariff to increase YOUR COSTS because he felt that Canada didn't do enough to rake their forests.
How many tantrums from this failed president do Americans have to suffer through?
Prime Minister,
You said: “Any sharing of the toll revenue won't happen until all the debt, all of the debt, is repaid."
Yet we learned last night that you had signed a deal that gives the U.S. “50% of net bridge and crossing related revenues for the first 15 fiscal years of bridge operations.” Before debt repayment. Just profit sharing on a bridge 100% built with our tax dollars.
The opposite of what you said.
How do we trust anything else you say about dealing with the U.S.?
@RapidResponse47@POTUS How was the Canadian support for California during the last set of catastrophic wild fires?! Canada was the first country to help for free ffs and ur wanting to tariff the f-Ing air ffs?!! WTF kind of stupid are you?
"The Canada tariffs, are those a response to the wildfires?"
@POTUS: "No. That's separate... It's only a response to the way they have treated our farmers and our people. Canada's been very, very tough on us over the years... and no other president's done anything about it."
For too long Canada has unfairly targeted American alcohol, dairy and vehicles.
As a result of my CANADA Act, President Trump just gave Canada 30 days to end their discrimination of U.S. goods or face 50% tariffs.
This stands up for American workers, farmers, viticulturists, and small businesses. Thank you @POTUS@USTradeRep.
Canada is turning into the same scenario as the UK. Pretty much same propaganda coming from the government in the UK as Carney in Canada. Not good for Canada.
Congratulations to Andy Burnham on becoming the new Prime Minister of the UK.
Canada and the UK have shared history, enduring ties, and deep connections between our peoples.
I look forward to working with Prime Minister Burnham to build greater security, stability, and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.
This is insane. The worker from @GoodLifeFitness lost her job because she asked this “influencer” to leave for carrying a knife.
Oh Canada, how far you’ve fallen.
🤦♂️
It turns out the female employee at GoodLife Fitness was fired?! If anyone knows her name, please let me know… she deserves our full support!
Laws should be applied EQUALLY for everyone.

I don't want to live in a Canada where foreigners can carry swords in public because it's "part of their religion"
If you're going to start a new life in Canada you better adjust to our way of life because i refuse to assimilate to yours. You're in my home.
Assimilate or GTFO
Yesterday, I had a detailed call with Canada’s Ambassador to the U.S., @MarkDWiseman. I stressed to him, on behalf of millions of concerned Americans, just how extremely important and urgent it is to put out all the fires harming U.S. air quality.
Going forward, it will be so vital to maximize proactive forest management, early fire detection, and resource staging and instant mobilization. These cross-border air events simply cannot keep happening every year.

When California was burning, Canada sent fire fighters, planes and assistance — not insults.
I was proud to meet them, and to thank them, when they would break for dinner.
As California and other states step up to repay the favor, we should do so without the threats and ramblings of a failing leader.
We should show some humanity.
A Sikh man is expelled from a gym for wearing his kirpan. He films his expulsion and denounces it as a racist act.
Are you in favor of banning the kirpan in public places?
Yes or no
This was Goodlife’s response regarding the individual that was asked to leave due to the kirpan they were carrying.
They couldn’t even stand by their employee who was obviously uncomfortable with someone having such a large blade on them.
Why should one’s “religion” automatically mean the people around them should just feel safe? You don’t know anyone, their mental state, their past, their views.
Women in Canada can’t carry any form of protection because why? their belief to keep themselves safe is not as strong as Sikhs belief in the Kirpan?
We can’t make endless accommodations for some & leave entire groups ignored.
Something has to give.
Bloomberg says the quiet part aloud about Carney:
“he’s presided over the worst first year of growth for a [PM] since at least 1963.”
“…since he was elected, real [GDP] has shrunk by 0.05 per cent - the worst debut for a Canadian prime minister in at least 63 years.”
