Lusanda Mathabela, 19, was stabbed to death in her home by two men in Mattafin, Nelspruit, on 3 November 2025.
It is alleged that police initially responded to a complaint about a residential burglary. Upon arrival, they found Lusanda’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, with multiple stab wounds.
Two suspects, Katlego Mokoena and Lungelo Sithole, both 18, were arrested at the scene and charged with murder. One of the suspects was Lusanda’s ex-boyfriend.
Both men remain in custody, and the case has been postponed for a formal bail application. One of the suspects is reportedly a Grade 12 learner and will be writing his examinations while in custody.
We are heartbroken by the loss of yet another beautiful soul. How many more lives must be taken before Gender-Based Violence and Femicide are finally declared a National Disaster? On 21 November, we will no longer stay silent.
