After being named the top graduating senior for our Spring 2026 cohort, Tessa Sprague received the Kathryn Thomasson Award for Excellence in Chemistry by a first generation college student. The award is given by Iota Sigma Pi, the National Honor Society for Women in Chemistry.

Konrad Meister received the 2026 OUR Mentor of the Year Award for his excellent mentorship of undergraduate students, and Owen McDougal was awarded the 2026 Presidential Innovation Award for his work with the FDIC.
Congratulations to Spring 2025 Chemistry grad Jasmine Baclig! She received the highly competitive 2026 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) award.
We look forward to seeing how this award advances her research as a BMOL PhD student working with Dr. Konrad Meister!

So far this academic year, we've celebrated one successful thesis defense for the Masters in Chemistry program, and THREE Biomolecular Ph.D. defenses from students that our faculty mentor. Congratulations...we're very proud of all your hard work towards this accomplishment!

An all-female team from the Meister Lab, led by graduate student Rosemary Eufemio, with undergrad Hailey Soule, and research tech Jayden Brandt, went on an inaugural field expedition to northern Idaho in search of lichen, liverwort, and other ice-active organisms.
Two graduate students attended the Schmidt Sciences Virtual Institute on Feedstocks of the Future (VIFF) community convening in Mountain View, CA. Morgan Fong and Kylie Johnson presented their research posters, toured agricultural sites, and collaborated with other researchers.
The ACS's Society Committee on Education (SOCED) selects ACS Student Communities to receive special recognition on the basis of their programs and activities. Our Chem Club was awarded an OUTSTANDING recognition for the 2024-2025 academic year, the highest recognition possible!
Double major (Chemistry and Applied Mathematics) Tucker Gratton was recently awarded a $5000 scholarship from the American Chemical Society (ACS) to continue his undergraduate education here at Boise State.
Long-time Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty member Dr. Martin Schimpf retired this summer, leaving after 35 distinguished years of service to Boise State University.
High school students worked once again with faculty across campus through the Project SEED program. They earned a stipend while participating in research projects that they presented at the Idaho Conference on Undergraduate Research (ICUR 2025).
