The 45Q tax credit rewards companies for every ton of carbon captured, including through enhanced oil recovery.
This process injects carbon into the ground to release oil and leads to increased carbon emissions.
My bill with @RepScottPerry would bar companies using this carbon-intensive process from receiving the 45Q tax credit.
Let's set a few things straight--Trump also increased the 45Q tax credit for carbon pipelines. Trump supports eminent domain for private gain. If we are all serious about protecting property rights and the environment, there would be major changes to federal and state laws around fossil fuel infrastructure. We've tried. GOP blocks it EVERY TIME.
Bold supports landowners across 7 different states that form Easement Action Teams to protect their property rights. A new lawsuit has been filed in Iowa against Summit, an unnecessary and new carbon pipeline that should never be granted eminent domain: https://t.co/SHpV4kggVj
Join @janekleeb and Tallgrass Energy to hear about the Trailblazer Pipeline Community Benefits Agreement: Sept. 3: Hastings (12p); Sept. 4: Columbus (12p) https://t.co/KW6uCf6h1P
“The incident occurred, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the pipeline wasn’t safe.”
That’s what an @APIenergy exec said when I asked about a massive CO2 pipeline leak in Louisiana.
There are dangerous gaps in CO2 pipeline regulation. We can't rely on industry to keep us safe.
CO2 pipelines aren’t safe, they aren’t clean, they are a bad idea. PHMSA reauthorization is a chance to reconcile addressing the climate crisis with all of the fossil fuel business as usual we’re trapped in. But the PIPES Act failed to meet this imperative, so I voted no.
