The 50th anniversary of Operation Understanding marks a moment of reflection and recommitment. The 52 pioneers of 1976 demonstrated that organized, public advocacy could change the way a nation understood addiction. That work is not finished — and the recovery movement of 2026 is its direct continuation. For more information, visit https://t.co/qCyPdXwDIC. #mobilizerecovery #operationunderstanding

I am deeply honored to receive the Recovery Advocacy Award from the Minnesota Alliance of Recovery Community Organizations. This recognition means more than I can express. My work has always been about showing up for the recovery community, elevating ethical practice, and fighting for the services and support people deserve. To be acknowledged by peers and leaders who share that commitment is incredibly meaningful. I’m grateful for everyone who has walked alongside me, challenged systems with me, and believed in the power of recovery to change lives and communities. This award fuels my determination to keep pushing forward with integrity, compassion, and hope. #ThisIsWhatRecoveryLooksLike

The graphic below is from @kare11's @LouNewsMan. Kyros/Refocus Recovery began billing Medicaid for Peer Recovery Services (PRS) in 2022, and total PRS billing across all providers nearly quadrupled in just one year—from $3.6 million to $12.3 million. In 2023, they billed for the full year, and overall statewide PRS billing grew almost tenfold compared to 2021—an increase of nearly $30 million in just two years. That level of growth is a HUGE red flag.
Kyros/Refocus was shut down in September 2024 due to credible allegations of fraud, and total PRS billing across all providers dropped to $20.5 million in 2025. Billing in 2026 appears to be on pace for around $10 million statewide, which aligns more closely with a reasonable rate of growth when looking back to when PRS billing was first approved in 2018.
A small group of us worked hard to create and pass new legislation in 2024 and 2025 to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse. I’m proud of what we accomplished, even if we may have added a bit more documentation than ideal.
