Custom House, Liverpool - The "Fourth Grace" we never got to keep💔
It stood proud on the Liverpool waterfront for a century, but it couldn't survive the aftermath of the war.
These images captures the magnificent Custom House in 1927... and the tragic shell that remained in 1947.
Built on the site of the original Old Dock, this was one of the grandest buildings the city ever saw. Today, we often talk about the 'Three Graces', but if this masterpiece had survived the controversial demolition of 1947, we would surely have had four.
The outer walls survived the May Blitz of 1941, and many argued it could be saved. Instead, the decision was made to pull it down.
Watch the fade from glory to ruin.
The Big Question: Looking back, was it a mistake to demolish it, or was the damage too great?
@autcareandshare If this was Avanti, there is someone we know who would really want to know this but if it was Northern trains then I don’t know anyone there but that feedback should be given. I think we would all be with you and Ryan on that.
We are back home!!!! It only took around 7 hours, but we are finally home, train delays, train cancellations, information from train station staff shockingly bad, as was disability help/ assistance( there wasn't any), not one member of staff offered any help or support, we'd waited hours Ryan was upset and I was struggling with bags and holding his hand , yet the other people waiting for the trains were absolutely amazing they'd offer to watch luggage while I took Ryan to the toilet, a few people asked if we needed any help, one homeless guy sat and talked to Ryan about his favourite movies , I don't like saying anything negative on my page and always reflect on the positive, I'm sorry if my comments about train staff offends but honestly I was shocked how seemingly unaware of disabilities they were.
