following dynamic growth in 2020 and 2021, transaction activity lacked a clear trend. while activity increased since autumn 2024, it then declined again in may 2025. the strong market dominance of tether is evident in these data. (first image)

strong network effects shape the underlying blockchain infrastructure for stablecoin transactions:
tron is the dominant player, able to offer up to 2,000 tps (transactions per second). its fees are considered relatively low. 

ethereum is in second place (~18 tps), followed by binance smart chain (bsc).
